Hollywood might be losing a golden lesbian couple, but the state of California is gaining a place in the history books with today's State Supreme Court decision to overturn a ban on same-sex marriage.

Nearly 4 years ago to the day, it was my home state that was ruling on same-sex marriage. A few months later my partner and I were legally married in our living room. And a few months after that, my partner's name was typed onto our daughter's birth certificate right below mine.
I believed it then and I really believe it now: A victory for same-sex marriage is a victory for children. Everyone's children.
As one little boy I know said when his Massachusetts moms told him they were going to get married: "Hooray! Now we all get to go on a cruise!"
