That Unfresh Feeling

Posted by Adrienne Martini

I've now rewritten the first sentence of this post four dozen times. If there is a tasteful way to broach this topic, I apparently can't figure out what it is. So, I'll be blunt: your vagina may be imperfect.

Someone had to tell you. Better it's a blogger than someone you care for, right?

Fortunately, eHow has a tutorial up that explains how to have a perfect vagina. Even though the headline is a bit misleading -- the story and tips are more about a healthy vagina than a perfect one -- the idea is intriguing. What makes for a perfect vagina? Is it one of those "eye of the beholder" deals or are there objective standards? And if yours is perfect, what do you win?

Is there going to be a companion article for the Dad's penis care (the perfect cock?) Or would that be too misogynistic? I don't see you running photos of men with I heart my cock t-shirts anytime soon.

There is a need for information like this.  I was aquainted with a young lady, I think she was 21, who was pregnant with her first child.  We were talking about her upcoming delivery and she says,

"I am gld I can have a natural birth because then something so NASTY as that down there will be used for something nice".  I was floored.  I talked to her about why she felt that way and she said it was cultural, she is a rural african-american. She said all the girls tought of their private parts as dirty, gross and smelly.  She said they do oral sex on men but would never let a man go down on them because , "The dump is too close to the playground". Hahaha!  Here she was, a bright, educated woman about to become a mother and had never even gone to a gynocologist cause it was so nasty.

I think it's a guy supporting our vajayjays, but I could be wrong.

And I feel so awful for that young woman, thinking hers is nasty.

This article and Cassie's comment all point out how woefully inadequate sex ed is in our culture. The fact that women know so little about their own anatomy is really shameful. Sad and shameful.

I am of the mindset that Cassie makes up these little anecdotes simply to support her opinions.  I've also noticed that the "people" she uses are usually African-American.  Interesting.
