My apologies for being such a downer today. I’m not happy
about the news, either. In an Indian village near Raipur,
a man named Ganeshram admitted to strangling his wife to death because she
refused his sexual advances, saying she was too pregnant.
Although Ganeshram and his parents initially described the death
as an accident, a postmortem report found that the woman had been killed by
strangulation. Upon his arrest, Ganeshram immediately admitted to the murder. The
police chief’s statement on the crime makes it disturbingly possible to
understand why Ganeshram might have felt he'd gain some sympathizers if he openly discussed his motives for the murder. Speaking of Ganeshram’s wife, the chief
stated, “She refused because of her advanced pregnancy and she abused him,
calling him a dog.”
She abused him?! I sincerely hope the chief was
simply paraphrasing Ganeshram’s diabolical thinking--and that Ganeshram's sentencing is harsh enough to serve as a warning to other domestic abusers.
