Brad Pitt's recent gift to Angelina Jolie has the psychoanalysts out and talking. What is it? A simple gold necklace with a shotgun pendant.
The weapons-grade jewelry was designed by the couple's eldest son, Maddox. Here's what Jolie says about the firearms-bling:
''Mad, our 6-year-old, draws lots of war scenarios,'' she explains.
''He's all into war and guns. So for Mother's Day he drew a machine
gun, and Brad had it made into a necklace, which is really sweet. It's
really cute. I think it's really good!''
Seriously, nothing out of the ordinary for any mom (well, maybe the part of having the sketch gilded and hung from a chain). Here's what cracks me up -- EW's interpretation of said jewelry.
From EW:
Leave it to Angelina Jolie to drop the words cute and machine gun
in the same breath. The 33-year-old Academy Award winner has always
cultivated dual identities: On the one hand, she's been the Mistress of
the Dark (as in her fascinations with tattoos, knives, and blood); on
the other, she's the Minister of Light (her work promoting
international peace). Her next starring film roles keep that dichotomy
alive: blah, blah, blah.
Really? So complex? She's a mom; her son made it. I think even moms with just a singular identity would say something similar.
While we're on the war, violence and niceness theme, a question: does the family's $1m donation to Iraqi children further elaborate on Jolie's duality? Nah. She's just being nice.
