A Cheap Step Toward Healthier Living

Posted by Adrienne Martini

I am about to save you a small fortune in vitamins, herbs, antibacterial products and cleaning supplies. You can thank me later.

Want to reduce the amount of germs that your kids, spouse and/or pets come into contact with? Take your shoes off when you walk in the door.

According to a new study, shoes can be home to more than 420,000 bacteria, 27 percent of which were a deadly form of E. coli. If you leave your shoes on and walk around your house, all of that bacteria is easily transferred to carpet and hard tile, where small people can get it all over their hands, knees and faces. Yum.

So get those shoes off! Let your tootsies go!

We don't wear our shoes in the house.  Well, my son and I leave them at the back door, my partner usually deposits his in the living room (but that is whole other thing).  I do it because I think it saves me some sweeping and vacuuming.  But now I can say its to save my family from deadly bacteria.

We never wear shoes in the house either. That's just a habit I grew up with.

Ditto here!  It means you can go for longer without mopping. . . I mean, it means your floors are cleaner, longer.

We have never worn shoes in our house.  I think it is gross when people do.  No one in Japan wears shoes in the house and look how long they live.

So we're pretty much screwed.  I've never made anyone take their shoes off in the house.  Ever.  We have hardwood floors.  My kids and I eat on the floor (throw rugs) all the time on the weekends.  We also have a cat.  Come on over for a meal, y'all!  BYOA...Bring Your Own Anti-biotic!
