You Mean Mocking Pregnant Teens Isn't Smart Satire?

Posted by Madeline Holler

Where to start? Apparently there is some annual "Horribles" parade in Beverly Farms, Mass., a tony township near the young and fertile hamlet of Gloucester. (You remember Gloucester, right? Scads of pregnant teens in one year ... high school principal claims the girls got pregnant on purpose ... town mayor calls bullshit on the principal ... media frenzy and lots of soul-searching ensues.)

Now, aforementioned annual Beverly Horribles Parade encourages participants to create floats that comment on or satirize current events. Soooooo (and I think you know where this is going) ... not one, not two, but THREE floats featured girl-teens with basketballs shoved up their tiny dresses. These Gloucester teen stunt doubles danced provocatively -- lots of pelvic thrusts -- and did their best to ... what, satirize? Comment on? ... the teen pregnancy crisis in their sister city.

Needless to say many are offended. A couple of people recruited to judge the floats in this parade walked out. Interestingly, one of these teen-mom floats won 2nd place and a $400 prize. Huh. Funny stuff, those 15-year-old moms.

You can see one of the floats in this video, but apparently the prize-winning entry was too icky to show on TV.

I thought it was rather funny.

The point of the parade was to poke fun at current events and that just happened to be one of them. If people can't take it, then it may be time to pull the sticks out of their asses.

Its okay to glorify teen pregnancy with Jamie Lynn Spears and movies like 'Juno' but god-forbid some one "make fun" of it. Those girls were just asking for it. What teen purposely gets herself pregnant? A rather dumb one if you ask me.

It's called a "Horribles" parade for God's sake. If you ask me, the woman in white commenting on the float was far more offensive... "I mean, like, why would they... I mean, you know, it's like, who would do that? Like, they, you know, have to live with it, I mean, why would they..." Ugh!

The "too offensive for the news" float is in this video: www.youtube.com/watch

Don't the floats, in a sense, make a point about the glorification of teenage and unwed mothers?  Maybe, had the school, nurse, parents, whoever paid attention (especially if the rumor about pregnancy tests being taken at the school is true), this wouldn't have reached the national news.  And also, maybe the pregnant teens shouldn't be featured on Good Morning America, or whatever they were on?  Jamie Lynne Spears, Juno, they're not the problem.  Sometimes people need to take responsibility for themselves.  And also?  The parade?  It's a JOKE!
