Political Nanny: Did John Edwards Father a Love Child?

Posted by Madeline Holler

Although it pains Political Nanny a bit to jump in on rumors about politicians' illicit affairs, she's interested to see where this one goes.

The National Enquirer is reporting (grain of salt, grain of salt) that they've finally uncovered evidence that the only plausible white, male Democratic candidate for the 2008 election -- John Edwards -- has been cheating on his dying wife with a sort of member of his now defunct campaign, Rielle Hunter. Not only that, the two made a little baby together. Awwww. Wait, ewwwww. Political Nanny is confused.

From Gawker:

Vice Presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards was caught visiting his mistress and secret love child at 2:40 this morning in a Los Angeles hotel by the NATIONAL ENQUIRER.

The married ex-senator from North Carolina - whose wife Elizabeth continues to battle cancer — met with his mistress, blonde divorcee Rielle Hunter, at the Beverly Hilton on Monday night July 21 - and the NATIONAL ENQUIRER was there! He didn't leave until early the next morning.

From the Enquirer:

Edwards denied the affair and that he was the father, and in a bizarre twist, a close friend of his, Andrew Young, said he was the father. Young, 41, was married at the time with three children. The NATIONAL ENQUIRER has learned he still is married.

Will the allegations stick? The last 2008 candidate accused of an affair was John McCain. Seems a press conference, a cozy relationship with reporters, a little distraction called "the Democratic Primary" and, maybe even, the truth took care of that.

Political Nanny will keep you posted. (She knows, you feel sick in your stomach right now, huh?)

He totally did it.  This has been rumoured for over a year and was hinted to be why he dropped out of the race so gracefully.  Politicians are all whores.  Man, looks like he would have used a condom.

Dear blogger:

Please remove this story about my husband, John Edwards.   You have made your point. We are suffering!!!  This story is very hard on our daughter in law school.  We are all in tears. If you need to call me to confirm this request, then please call me on my cell at (919) 636-3131.  Bless you.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Edwards

Cassie,

I got pregnant using the condom and while on the pill......stuff happens, that doesn't make it right, but it does.

To me, this is just sad.  I mean, how sick is Elizabeth Edwards, and why would this guy even chance getting caught???  And he was thinking about being VP??  yeah, that's gonna happen.

That's it - no way is he getting my vote now.

And I'll start a conspiracy theory: the Clinton camp planted this to make sure Edwards is out of the running for VP.

I question whether this comment is really from Elizabeth

Edwards.  I think as an attorney, she would have handled it

differently, whether true or untrue.  I think first she

would have written, then she might send a mediary, and finally, if necessary, a lawsuit would be filed.

I question the whole story.  The place was loaded with

media, and yet the photos shown on this story are from 2007.

The Enquirer is better than that at getting a real scoop...

there would be telling photos of John ducking into the bathroom, and then leaving the hotel...he would not have

been able to leave, without the taking of photos.  This

sounds like an old story rehashed...a story that went no

where the first time it came out.  I've also heard that

Young left his wife.  No one in mainstream media is covering this....could be, they know a phony story when they see one and don't want to risk being sued!

Is John Edward's private life that important ?  Is this story a Republican Smear Campaign ?  Politics and the media are are just brutal. Amazingly, as things were going so well for Barack Obama, all of a sudden this story hits the wire. Conspiracy or Fact ?

The man is a poor excuse for a human.  Politics aside, this is sad. Whether you are a public figure or not, it is a good thing to understand that this happens everywhere and to anyone.  We all say, oh this is personal, but I do hope this comes out in mainstream media.  We all learn from each other.  We can fall from grace at any moment.  No one is immune.  As a parent, the many women that my ex was involved with would beg me to leave him via my 9 yr old daughter.  Sad women who always felt that he was the answer to their prayers.  I would always respond that the door was open.  He never left. NO regrets.  She loves him dearly and the sacrifices that I made to ensure that she had a stable and happy life were well worth it.  Having children is about doing the best that you can for them.  It is called sacrifice.  I feel deeply for Mrs. Edwards.  Having said that, she has deep strength which will carry her.  Her children will suffer.  Perhaps that father will come to recognize what he done.  There is no UHaul Truck at the grave to load your guilt and take it away with you.  You have to live with what you sow.  He had a choice as we all do in life.  God bless that family.
