Two-Headed Newborn Dies

Posted by Madeline Holler

The two-headed baby born three days ago in Bangladesh died today. The baby (babies?) contracted a fever and was suffering breathing difficulities before he (they?) succumbed.

Want to know what's really sad?

Baby Kiron could have possibly been saved, but his family, poor villagers, couldn't get the boy to a hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh's capital, for proper treatment.

Since birth, the clinic where he was born and the family home has been hounded by visitors who thought the deformity was a sign the baby was a god. More than 150,000 people mobbed the clinic to get a glimpse of him. Police have stood guard at the family home for protection.

Kind of makes you wonder if the fever came from one of the flockers.

Why was one name given? Two heads = two consciences = two people, no?

To follow up to my previous comment in the other thread, I think this clearly would have been two people.  The case of USA-born conjoined twins, Abigail and Brittany Hensel, is not all that different (two heads, one body) and they are clearly two people, not a two headed single person.

I saw the show about them on TLC, definetly two different people. But the whole time I watched it I was just in awe. I have never seen something like that before, it was amazing how they did anything, they even took two seperate driving tests to get thier licenses. But they only have one set of reproductive organs... I just want to know how that will work out if they each meet a guy that they want to marry, or just be physical with.

I don't know diddly-squat about what they believe in Bangladesh, but some cultures/religions believe that the soul resides in the head, some in the heart, and some in the belly. So two heads do not automatically equal two persons, theologically speaking. From a medical standpoint, one head might not be fully functional - a dead head, if you will. Of course, if you have two separate personalities that can speak, eat, and so forth, that would seem to me to be definitive proof of two persons.
