So – who ya voting for?

Posted by Brett Singer

Vote! So. The conventions are over. Speeches have been spoken, mud has been slung, and nominations have been made.

I have a theory. I think that the country is very much divided this year, almost 50-50. I'm not saying I'm the next Amazing Kreskin here, this is what most of the polls show.

Still, I'd like to see if I'm right, albeit in a completely unscientific way.

In the comments, let us know for whom you plan to vote, even if you are undecided. This isn't an attempt to find out anyone's specific political leanings, so please feel free to post your candidate of choice anonymously. Up to you if you want to say why. If we get enough responses, I'll tally up the "votes" and see what the results are. My guess? 50-50, or something close.

So – who ya voting for?

My husband was on the fence until McCain picked Palin. Now he's on the Obama bus too, if you want to add that to your sample.

Good point though - Babble is HARDLY a good sample. If it leaned any harder to the left it'd fall over.

First ask a person if they are better off now and is the nation better off now at the end of 8 years of a Republican executive branch.  If they answer yes then they should vote for McSame.  If the answer is no then they vote for Obama.  McCain has voted 90% of the time with Bush on his policies.  So he will not be any different.  If you believe he will suddenly magically morph into someone who disagrees with the Bush Administration policies after 8 years, then you need to have a look at a bridge I have for sale in Brooklyn.  Me, I hate paying more for milk and gas.  I think our schools suck, I hate the war and my tax dollars going to it.  So I vote for Change.  Obama 2008.

...and for a potential leader, I find a Harvard degree and obvious intelligence a whole lot more appealing and reassuring than an 'incredible gut,' a 'maverick spirit,' or the ability to dress a moose.

I honestly can't think of a single issue where I agree with the Republicans.

How can people TRULY be undecided?!  These candidates are nothing alike!  Think about what your values are and then find a candidate who can try to lead the country in that direction.  Forget about the whole cult of personality.  I think John McCain has been a fine senator.....I just don't want him appointing our next Supreme Court justice (shudder).

Meg, just b/c someone doesn't vote for Obama doesn't mean they have contempt for community organizers. The vast majority of people - Republicans, Democrats - do actually think for themselves and don't personally subscribe to every word anyone else says.

undecided, and a little bit annoyed.

undecided because each candidate represents part of what i am about, but neither does it all.  still making the lists, but so far it's pretty even.  in the end, it'll come down to what i think the candidates can actually get done and which issues are the most important to me.

annoyed because both conventions were kind of ... ugh.  like pep rallies?

the comment about babble being so far left that it'd fall over...funny stuff.  i consider babble my window into the lefty world, not knowing anyone with more of a liberal slant than you guys =P

Em,

Yeah, I know, but after listening to the RNC crowd roaring with derisive laughter at Obama's community service record, and after hearing Palin's *repeated* scornful and belittling comments regarding community service work, I think that the McCain/Palin ticket and the voters who support them have relinquished the high road on this particular subject.

To the few responders (women) voting for McCain/Palin - you can't be serious.  Palin is not for women's rights - she maybe a women but also likes to be an insider.  All the "reform" issues are just more of the same "good old boy" network.  No she's for big business and her own personal gain like most Republicans not "we the people".

Obama's not my first choice but he's getting my vote as I certainly don't want McSame and the religious right in the White House!
