The McCain campaign (the more I think about it, the more I sort of like "McCampaign") says that Barack Obama called Sarah Palin "a pig". Not only did he not say it, but the phrase he used, "lipstick on a pig" (referring to the McCampaign's whole "change" theme), is one that McCain himself used in 2007. Well, he wasn't talking about a woman, though, right? Um, yes. Yes he was. He was talking about Hillary Clinton:
He [McCain] called health care the top domestic issue in the campaign and promised a major address on the subject. The solution, McCain said, isn't Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton's proposal to mandate universal coverage, which he described as ``putting lipstick on a pig,'' but a market-based plan based on private insurance.
Hmmm.
Dick Cheney also used the phrase. Here's the video, which also includes Obama's actual remarks, where he clearly wasn't talking about Palin specifically.
Methinks cries of sexism in this case are, at best, unwarranted.
