Morning News: Guess Which Campaign Lady is Best Dressed?

Posted by Madeline Holler

Will we soon see the end of delightful Sarah Palin news nugget? We feel like she and her family have so much more to give (like email access!). Maybe that's why the McCain campaign is putting a stop to all this silly "getting to know Sarah" nonsense. Those guys are really no fun.

What else isn't fun? Well, Wall Street, layoffs, and talk of women and economics (though Michelle Obama will tackle that last one -- and she'll look good doing it, too!).

Also, did the anthrax guy who killed himself act alone? Is there an extra-good reason to get the flu shot while pregnant? Plus, a sharp Obama zinger.

A few savory morsels of Daily Palin: The pitbull's getting a work-/ethics-history makeover. They've sent in top terrorism prosecutor Ed O'Callaghan to "work with" Palin's personal lawyer in coordinating all information that goes out about Palin's governorship over the last 20 months. The McCain campaign also insists on being the de facto source for all inquiries, which gets kind of funny when they have to answer questions about stuff they know nothing about (i.e. Sarah Palin and Alaska). O'Callaghan has also been given the task of derailing Troopergate. This strikes us as counter to those ruggedly individual Western/Alaskan ideals.

Computer-savvy snoops hacked into Sarah Palin's personal email account and posted screen shots of her inbox, her username and email messages. It's all true and confirmed and the McCain campaign is outraged at this breech. Frankly, we are too. Know what else is outrageous? She uses a private personal account for state business (hence, the two Blackberrys in all the backstage RNC photos). We suppose the silver lining in all this is the comfort in knowing that three out of the four candidates running for the top-two offices in the land can compose and send emails!

Michelle Obama is back on the campaign trail. She's leading a series of discussions on women's economic issues and that's super great and important and everything. But here's the real reason we're bringing her up: she made People mag's Best Dressed list ... of course she did! She was given high marks for a look that was classic and confident. Sarah Palin (oops! We're talking about her again) had also been talked about among the judges, but her spokesperson said she didn't want the spotlight to shine on her hair/suits/glasses/legs, she wants it to shine on her ideas. Okay, we're still waiting!)

This leaves us feeling creepy ... Sen. Patrick Leahy thinks that Bruce Ivins, the scientist who killed himself just as investigators of the big anthrax scare in 2001 were closing in on him, didn't act alone. He wouldn't say what makes him think that. FBI director Robert Mueller essentially said, "there, there, Pat ... Ivins did it alone, case closed."

Also not alone is George Herbert Walker Bush IV ... W's second-cousin. He is (was?) a senior manager at Lehman Brothers and, well, we all know what happend to those employees this week. We think the 39-year-old scion will be able to keep the $13 million townhouse he recently purchased, even without a steady job. But really, it's all so unfair.

Next in line for a spare government dime: Washington Mutual! Actually, it's been put up for sale, but so was AIG. Anyhoo ... this is sooo not surprising. They were deep in the subprime mortgage mess.

Now for some good new: if you're pregnant and you get the flu shot a month or more before your due, baby will be protected against the flu for the first six months of life. We know, we know, the jury is still sort of out on flu shots during pregnancy. But if you're a flu shot believer, this gets you around the whole "no flu shots for babies under six months" guideline. So, start shooting!

Speaking of shots, we like a fun twist of phrase and  this one criticizing John McCain's claim that he's going to bring down the old-boys network in Washington is no exception.
