The little sister to the ladies rag Cosmopolitan, CosmoGirl found itself in crowded teen-centric magazine racks along side TeenVogue, ElleGirl, Teen People, Seventeen, Teen and Tiger Beat as well as shrinking ad revenue. The Hearst Magazine will “consolidate its teen publishing activities into Seventeen” No more “Are You a Good Friend” and “What Kind of Sandwich Are You” quizzes. No more features on how to become irresistible, hairstyle hints, and things on boys, boys and boys. But along side all the fluff were pieces on 100 Best Colleges, battling writer’s block and safe sex. As Jezebel said in their obit, “The magazine was silly and serious, shallow and thoughtful”. Goodnight Cosmo Girl. But if your teen is going through withdrawal, the magazine will continue as an online destination.
