When a class offirst-graders surprised their devoted teacher by showering her with rose petals after her city hall wedding, that anti-gay marriage crew in California turned it into political fodder. Proposition 8 is a ballot initiative in California that would ban such weddings in the future. But though the group called this field trip "indoctrination" it was optional and two children were kept at school when their parents did not consent.
Interim school director, Liz Jaroslow called the wedding a "teachable moment" and said the issue was important enough to her to put her job on the line.
