When you are in the crosshairs of an extreme close up, certain blemishes or alledged blemishes can rear their ugly heads, not unlike a festering boil. Running for one of the highest offices in the land is a guarantee that the close up will be unflinching, often unflattering and that each and every mole (hill) will be turning into Mt. Everest.
This is true for each side of the aisle. But today is one for Team Palin. An official ethics complaint, which was expected, has been filed against Sarah Palin in Alaska. It alleges that Palin “used her official position as governor for personal gain, violating a statute of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.”
Last week the AP released info that Palin billed Alaska more than $21,000 for flights for her daughters as well charged the state for hotel rooms for them. Check out Jeanne's write up about it here.
Billing for kid's travel is generally acceptable when the children were explicitly invited to the event. But there were allegedly some events where the whole clan wasn’t asked to attend, but Palin still charged the state for the tag along team. And making matters worse, the report said that Palin had expense forms changed to say that it was “official state business”.
"Governor Palin intentionally secured unwarranted benefits for family members, improperly used state property to benefit her personal and financial interests, and illegally altered documents that were the subject of a Public Records request," the complaint states.
Do you think it’s okay for Palin to charge the state for her kid’s travel regardless of their participation?
