Woman Auctioning Off Her Virginity Calls Herself a Feminist

And yet more proof that you can use feminism as an argument for anything. Today, 30 years after the women’s movement has achieved absolute victory (in much the same way we accomplished our mission in Iraq back in 2003), women are not only able to freely sell their bodies via the World Wide Web, but are able to intelligently discuss their prostitution goals with supermodels like Tyra Banks, who clearly insinuate that virgins shouldn’t dress so “sexy.”

Just like Palin, 22-year-old Natalie Dylan (pictured) is living proof that anyone with a uterus can brand herself a feminist, even as her actions risk setting the women’s movement back about 50 years. Speaking on the Tyra Banks Show, Dylan explained that her interest in making some big bucks at Nevada’s Moonlight Bunny Brothel by auctioning off her virginity (the highest bid so far is $3.8 million) is mainly academic, stemming from her commitment to feminist studies. Dylan is writing her college thesis on “the dichotomous relationship between virginity and prostitution.”  That is indeed quite a dichotomy—just the kind of dichotomy that the friendly fellas over at the Moonlight Bunny Brothel will be very interested in, I’m sure.

Check out a clip of Dylan speaking to Tyra on Jezebel.

I don't see how a woman owning her own body and making her own choices about her sexual debut is anti-feminist. The valuation of virginity in women is absolutely misogynistic, and I applaud her for pointing it out so obviously.

I'd agree with you, Baconsmom, if she had no intention of going through with it.  If she does, then the statement is that female sexuality is a commodity to be sold and bought rather than an integral part of a human being, among all the obvious misogynistic messages about female virginity.  As said in Female Chauvinist Pigs, this new liberation is looking suspiciously like the old objectification, women's choice or no.

I am wondering who would pay $3.8 mill for sex with a virgin; It's not exactly good sex and I'm not sure that you can even verify that someone is really a virgin...??...so he's going to pay and just take her word for it? lol.

has she really established up a dichotomy? the prositute definitely has sex while a virgin may participate in some form of sexuality but not others. a prostitue's personal motives for sex are unclear, the protitutes does have sex for profit though. the vigin is expected to participate in some type of sexuality but has made no choice or established a clear personal motive for sex. one has a definite itdentity while the other is unformed. does she mean the dicotomy between personal sexual expression and prostitution?
