Infant Twins Safe After Newark Carjacking

Posted by Brett Singer

A Newark mom is relieved after a carjacker stole her SUV with her twins in the back seat. Luckily the kids are OK.This is one of those nightmare stories that ends well.

A woman in Newark, New Jersey was pulling out of her driveway. She got out of her car, a 2007 Hyundai SUV, to close the gate. A carjacker jumped into the vehicle and drove off. Big problem: her 10-month-old twins were in the back seat.

I guess the thief noticed that and freaked – less than a half an hour later, the vehicle was found around the corner. The car thief, they haven't found yet.

And people wonder why I don't have a driver's license… (Actually, this isn't why. Bad joke. Sorry.)

Who says there's no honor among thieves? Even if was just a fear of stinky diapers and not honor, at least the kids appear to be fine. And maybe this person will think twice before jacking another car.

Yes, thankfully the babies were returned safely... but seriously folks, a Hyundai?!! If you're gonna break the law and steal a car, it should be for a nicer one!

And my husband laughs at me when I'm left alone with our daughter in the car when he runs into a convenience store . . . sadly, moms with kids are prime car-jacking victims. Although this guy didn't seem to KNOW there were kids there, a lot of jackers will target a mom because they know she'll hand over the car as long as he lets her have her kids. Wouldn't you?

LogicalMama, you haven't been to Newark lately, have you? :P

I went to grad school there and sadly, someone carjacking a Hyundai doesn't at all amaze me. My friend had his utterly falling apart decrepit 15 year old car stolen - the guy who took it just wanted to go for a joy ride. We found it literally an hour later, around the corner, askew on the curb, engine still running.

So weird. <<head shake>>

And so glad the babies were okay. Cannot imagine what the mom went through for that brief half hour. Probably felt like an eternity!
