Sarah Palin Says Leave My Kids Alone

Posted by Brett Singer

Sarah Palin says Remember Sarah Palin? Republican Vice-Presidential candidate, kind of overshadowed John McCain for a while, said the word "maverick" a lot? Tina Fey did an impression of her on Saturday Night Live? Ring any bells?

She's back. Well, to be fair, she never went away. But the Associated Press has published a story talking about how Palin "is going on the offensive against news organizations as well as bloggers she says are perpetuating malicious gossip about her and her children." They say she has, "personally reached out to media outlets such as People magazine and The Associated Press to complain about information she claimed is wrong."

What information? Well, that her daughter Bristol Palin and her fiancee, Levi Johnson, have dropped out of high school. She says that isn't true since they are taking correspondence courses. That sort of thing. Palin says that she is doing this to "set the record straight" and not because of political ambitions.

American University professor Leonard Steinhorn, described as "an expert on the presidency," isn't buying it. He says that Palin is positioning herself to run for Prez in 2012, and is "attacking the media as a way to generate support among a base she hopes will support her." (He's an expert, so he must be right.)

Here's the thing. I don't think it's fair to go after her kids. But someone needs to explain to the Governor of Alaska that if you don't want "the media" to talk about your family, you probably shouldn't invite them into your home, which she did with the Today Show in November after losing the election. No one forced her to do that. And if she wanted to do the interview, she could have done it alone. But she chose to do it in her kitchen while she cooked dinner. She clearly wants to have her family be part of her image, but she also wants to pick and choose what people write about them.

The problem is, it doesn't work that way. You can't have your cake and bake it on national television too. There are plenty of ways to keep your family out of the spotlight. One of them is very simple:  keep them out of the spotlight.

I definitely think the kids should be left alone, but are Bristol and her fiance "kids"? If Bristol's not 18 she sure will be soon, and she's living like an adult (having a baby, planning a wedding). I do think the press leaves her minor children alone, right?

Anything to stay in the limelight. What do you think she'd do if everyone did stop talking about her, and her kids?

Maybe if she stops trotting them out in front of the cameras, they will be "left alone."  I, personally, want Palin to leave the rest of us alone.  Doesn't she have a job to do?  Children to raise?  A disabled baby to care for?  Go away, insipid media whore.

What is the media saying? i realize that I am a bit out of the american news loop, but to be quite honest I have not noticed that they are saying anything. I agree that children should never be brought up in a political campaign or part of the normal gossip rags. However, as we have all said she brought it upon herself! She took these kids everywhere she went and then got mad when people talk about them.

Does anyone know if they plan on going back and graduating with their class?

Agreed. The KIDS were up on the stage as she asked America to make them the SECOND FAMILY of the United States. Excuse me for being curious.

Any ANSWER she gave to controversy just stirred up more. I think it is BY DESIGN. She is a publicity hound. Who else drums up a presidential campaign 4 years before the fact based on hearsay and media poplarity? She is a product of the very thing she whines about constantly. You cannot take Palin seriously.

@dreambeliever200: I believe that Bristol (and Levi) are finishing their high school degrees online, which presumably means they won't be done in time to graduate with their class. Not positive about that however.

NO, BRISTOL AND lEVI are not graduating.

I READ Bristol was acquiring a GED, that´s what Palin SAID, but Palin has a pattern of rewriting history and making up crap.

According to the father of the guy Bristol will marry (one day, I GUESS), Mr. Johnston,  Levi isn´t pursuing his GED YET, but WILL.

Those KIDS just received $300,000.00 for baby photos, I have a feeling they are in no big hurry.

Well, it IS speculation, and it´s my right to speculate, if I want, Palin can stuff it. THIS is what she was whining about. Palin erroneously called DIARISTS bloggers. Bloggers are NOT anonymous, the people that comment at the end of articles are diarists, ME and YOU.

OH no, not a GED....anything but that.

I went to college with people who had obtained GEDs and were making the deans list (I went to Purdue--not some little jr college).

My dad got a GED, and he is doing just fine.

If they finish what's the big deal??  They didn't wear a cap and gown???  They didn't walk down the aisle to Pomp and Circumstance????  Oh no!!!!

I have a friend who had her first baby her senior year in high school, and no, she wasn't a slut.  By the time she was 23, she had completed her nursing degree and now works in a hospital.

Sometimes there are bumps in the road.  You do what you can.

I love the people who sit on their high horses and say, "that will NEVER happen to my child...."  Meanwhile, said child is getting high at every party or is on her 3rd abortion and mom and dad just don't know.

I got pregnant at 20 and had the baby at 21.  My friend's mom didn't think I was a good role model and didn't want me around her 12 year old daughter.  I was the one who told her to stop sleeping around (yes, she was 12!!!!).

Part of raising a child is luck.  And if you were in Sarah's place, I'm guessing you'd defend your child too.

If you are tired of hearing or reading about her, don't listen and don't read.  You have a choice.  Even if that choice means you turn off your tv.

I am not putting down GEDS. BOTH my parents got GEDS and went on to higher education.

Both my parents acknowledgedc they they dropped out, originally. If my child left high school, he would be a DROP OUT.

Track Palin is a DROP OUT, Bristol Palin is a DROP OUT, Levi Johnston is a DROP OUT. Palin went into tirade because they were identified as DROP OUTS. They ARE. The term doesn not change for Palin children. She can´t call a newspaper and tell them not to USE the term BECAUSE.....

It is a big deal because Palin c0ontinues to make things a big deal. BY DESIGN, of course.

As for children born out of wedlock...who cares? Palin stands on a styrofoam platform of christian family values and the point is, if it didnñt happen to her and it happened to someone else she would be the first to point the finger and pontificate to YOU.
