Whew! Girl Scout Cookies Safe From Peanut Butter Scare

Posted by Kate Tuttle

It's always a big day in our house when we order our boxes of Girl Scout cookies. We don't eat a ton of institutional peanut butter or store-bought cookies in our house, so we hadn't been terribly concerned about the latest salmonella outbreak, but when news came today clearing our beloved Caramel De-Lites (formerly known as Samoas), we all cheered!

Despite some worried calls to local leaders around the country, apparently this season's Girl Scout cookie sales have not been dented by the salmonella scare, nor even by the nation's crumbling economy. Some things really are too big to fail.

In related news, Girl Scouts thin mint cookies are, despite an oversight in the labeling process, kosher

Samoas (not Samosas) don't have peanut butter. They're caramel and coconut.

Tagalogs and those peanut butter sandwich cookies have peanut butter.

Samosas are deep fried Indian food goodness, not girl scout cookies. Seriously, do you people that write for this site ever proof your work before publishing it? The typos and misinformation is out of control.

Whoops! We had Indian food last night, which must have permeated my brain. Apologies for the mistake, and thanks for pointing it out, Sarah.

Safe from salmonella, but alas not safe from High Fructose Corn Syrup. Believe me- I was DEVASTATED when I read that my oh-so-favorite-since-I-was-a-Girl Scout Samoas were laden with HFCS!

Kris, they are tagalongs, not Tagalog (a language, or a people). This post is so funny with the samosas, cookies, etc. I'm starting to get hungry.

There's karma for you. Point out a typo and make another.

They're not actually called Tagalongs anymore, at least not here in Illinois, so I tend to forget.
