Most grandparents are blissfully happy to have grandchildren. They are so proud that "proud" doesn't sufficiently capture the feelings they have for their offspring's offspring. They want everyone to know that THEY! ARE! GRANDPARENTS!
Some, however, would prefer to keep their identity a secret.
The father of 13-year-old new dad Alfie Patten is shown here arriving at the hospital to visit his granddaughter, little Maisie Roxanne. (Which is a great name, although the story is of course not so great.) He is wearing a Halloween mask. A kind of scary Halloween mask. He is also putting a sign on his car windshield that says, "No Comment Ring Max." Max is Max Clifford, a British PR man. So while Alfie's father may be cashing in on this whole sordid business, he's doing it while keeping his own mug out of the papers.
If Alfie were my son, I don't think I would go the same route. I would try and find a way to avoid photographers, and I imagine there is a method other than visiting your grandchild dressed like a trick-or-treater. Of course, that wouldn't garner nearly as much attention.
This started as a "hey, this will be funny" post, but I think I'm annoyed now.
What would you do if Alfie were your son? Hide your face or shout it from the rooftops?
