13-year-old Conservative Addresses Political Convention

By | March 2nd, 2009 at 11:34 am

I may not agree with the political views of Jonathan Krohn, but I’m certainly impressed by him. The 13-year-old politcal wunderkind is the author of Define Conservatism and recently spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Supporters of Jonathan bill him as the future of the party, while detractors claim he’s simply been brainwashed.

What I see, however, is a kid who’s completely dedicated to a purpose, who feels strongly about a cause. Most 13-year-olds can’t even decide what to wear, much less decide on a political viewpoint. Is he simply parroting the views of his idol, the conservative radio host Bill Bennet, who Jonathan cites as a major influence? Does it matter?

As Jonathan gets older and more mature, I’m sure his viewpoints will change. But whether they will get more liberal or even more conservative remains to be seen.

Until then, I’ll just hope that my kids have half the purpose and drive as Jonathon Kohn… though perhaps on the soccer field or in an art class.

I’m really sorry about your dog, Twyla. :( I hope your week improves tremendously from here.

    Knitty,
You are right. I got offended. I felt bad for this little guy that everyone has decided could not formulate any opinion on his own. Maybe he is a child prodigy or maybe he is a puppet. I don’t really know.
I am a conservative republican and I am hoping that we are not turning the party over to preteens. I have one at my house and I don’t even want to turn over the loading of the dishwasher to him. So, trust me, I get it.
I am a little confused by the republican party. I don’t follow it all too closely. I know what I believe and that is good enough for me. I do like Sean Hannity but I also spend a lot of time in the car listening to Anderson Cooper. (He is even hot on the radio… Grrrr).
Anyway, no one attacked a choice. So, I apologize for getting my feathers ruffled with no help from anyone.
If it helps to understand, my doggy died yesterday and I found everything to be offensive and crappy.
    Please forgive me… Thanks!

Wow… How quickly Republicans get so aggressive about things…and Librals, quit getting their dander up. Can’t we all just get along?

Anyway, I think he’s just a meat puppet able to repeat ideas in a compelling way. By the time he gets into High School his tune will change. Kids are like that.

Twyla dear, I am under no obligation to “support” anyone’s choices, just as no one else has any obligation to support mine. If you have your 13-year-old homeschooled actor reciting propaganda in public and hailed as the “future of the party”, you might wanna steel yourself for the fact that some of us are going to laugh at the absurdity of it all.

Like many conservatives, you seem to be confused by the difference between legislating against someone’s “choice” and expressing an opinion about it.

Why is it you are all so very pro-choice until someone makes the choice to believe differently then you do? Why is that not a choice to be in support of?
I teach my children conservative republican views while also teaching them to respect other people’s right to see things differently then we do. I think my republican children are far more tolerant (a word you all like to throw around) then any liberal I have ever met.
Good for this little guy. Regardless of where his speech came from, he did a good job in delivering it.

Oh stop griping. Liberals indoctrinate their kids, too. For example, there was a kid that told my mother she should be married to a woman.

In one of my favorite movies Butterflies Are Free, a character says “…there is no such thing as a young republican.” Maybe not true, but feels true sometimes.

A home-schooled actor? They might be onto something here.

Sarah, I’ve never understood all the “young Republicans” clubs either, but I suspect that their ideology is so counter to what would actually benefit young people that they’re desperate to start indoctrinating more little Jonathan Krohns as soon as they can. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to find them setting up tables at the local Kindergarten this fall.

On his website, his biography states that he is a homeschooled child who has performed on Broadway and has won several talent and theatrical competitions.

It seems more like this child is very adept at taking someone else’s script and sounding authoratative performing it.

Also, why does the conservative movement need to have all these little clubs? I’ve never heard of a Liberal Action Conference or a Centrist Association of America.
