LIVE BLOGGING: In the Motherhood Premiere

Posted by JeanneSager

Are you ready? We better be - we've been buzzing all week at Babble about the new show In the Motherhood over at ABC, and it's about to start - 8 Eastern/7 Central. So turn on your TVs and tune in to ABC.

But keep your computers on! We're going to be live blogging the show, so come back at the commercial breaks to hear what we have to say and weigh in on what you're thinking!

OK - let me list how many of those "real life" motherhood moments I've been there for:

1. Walking into that house - the dog, the screaming . . . check

2. Calling my girlfriends for a glass of wine after said screaming. .. check

3. Convincing my child to like doing laundry . . . er, no, not my house. Can they send those kids over?

Any of these ringing bells?

I've been waiting for this show to see just how real-life it was going to be, and I've been telling everyone I was psyched for an all-parent TV show. I was telling the truth . . . sort of.

I was really just waiting to see Megan Mullally try to play someone other than Karen (you know, Will & Grace drunkos who made us watch even when Grace whined?). And, maybe it's just me, but she IS still Karen - only Karen the way she would be if she had kids, and a bunch of girlfriends who were actually . . . girls. Yay! And she's totally right - pregnant women have all the perks.

Which is why I'm more the Cheryl Hines character - the "normal" one (is it sad that I use quotes for normal and still associate myself with it?). And Jessica St. Clair is my archnemesis.

So which mom are you?

OK, I love Megan Mullally's "social experiment" about pregnant women.

"In the Motherhood" seemed to get good start, and is a show that looks to have some real potential. Then again, who could resist the charming comedic stylings of Megan Mullally!

I am watching purely to see if my original impression is wrong. During the promos, I have found the characters to be archetypes that I don't easily relate to. I had hoped that the "normal" mom would be a bit more, well, normal. I guess I just don't seem myself represented in the highly made-up, jewelry wearing moms. That said, I don't live in the city. I'm interested to hear what others think after finally seeing a real episode!

West coast viewing ... finally! That "Childhood over" photo joke totally worked. I hate the contrived feel of pilots -- almost like everyone knows they have to be funny or die -- but that santa bit worked. Yeah.

I don't know any moms like those characters. Why are they all so slim and dress so great? Where is the greasy ponytail and velour pants with bleach stains on them? Why does Megans character try to act like Edina from Ab Fab?

Pilots are always pretty crappy but I do love Megan Mullally. I thought she was great tonite. The other two women looked like they were acting in a high school play. That always seems to get better as a sitcom goes on.

Yeh like you cant judge a book by its cover dont judge a tv programme by its pilot...i reckon its gonna be wicked. then again, they are not very realistic characters as alice says - the real mums are on the sites for mothers gurgle. america tv loses touch with tis audience again...
