26-year-old Ashley Swendsen had one hell of a day. This Colorado Springs resident escaped a bear attack but when running away from the Black Bear she was hit by a car. Oh and she just happened to be five months pregnant.
Swendsen was walking along a trail next to a creek in a area referred to a “bear heaven”, when she saw the bear who in turn spotted her. She began to walk then run away from the quickly approaching threat. She ran up an embankment and smack dab onto a road and was promptly was hit by a car driven by an elderly woman.
Fortunately, the expectant mother only sustained minor injuries. Yup, she lucked out. The bear, well she wasn’t as lucky. The police and the Division of Wildwife who responded to the sighting, hunted down the 230 pound bear, tranquilized and caught her. After Swendsen IDed the bear, the animal was killed. After escaping a bear and being hit by car, Swendsen’s childbirth will be a cinch.
