All I can say is I cant stand Kate. Its obvious she was raised poor and cant get enough money.I love jon to death I dont know why he has lasted this long.Kate is using her kids to get every dollar she can get,TLC should have a law suit against them for this scandal.Kate is a horrible mom and wife Jon should divorce her and get custody of the kids im sure they would want to be with him anyway.I loved the show until they moved in the new house then Kate became Donald Trump ha,ha that was a good one!The kids are sooo cute love to meet them in person but not Kate, she would put germ spray on her hands if you touched her.Wake up Kate and see what youre doing, this is getting so bad it wont last.
How much does it take to raise 8 kids? Don’t forget how much the books, the book signings, the product endorsements, the expected ‘love offerings”, the appearances are generating. How much of it is going to the kids and how much accountability is there? Their net worth is conservatively estimated at 10 million. Don’t forget…if they were hard up for money, they could always have a movie or special to help folks catch up on their lives. Mady and Cara make beautiful models. If they really needed the money, there are ways of making it without sacrificing the children’s dignity, safety, privacy, and well-being. But oh…that would require the “scrimping and saving” that Kate talks about so much, right? Well, then if she is to be believed, she is really good at it and is used to it! After all, a woman who has 8 children that she finds “exhausting” who can manage get and maintain a perfect tan and a perfect manicure with all the “work” she claims she is doing to raise those kids can do anything, right? How many of us moms out there could manage that? And with fewer kids than she has. Get real. This is not a reality show. Use some critical thinking skills, people. AND Kate’s admission that she has been hard on Jon (“it’s on tape!”…which means she can’t lie about it) comes with a “confession” of how much she has regretted it over 10 years. Yet seeing it on tape and regretting it has not managed to get her to moderate her behavior. Instead, her behavior has become worse and worse. How many public figures come out with “mea culpas” but continue on in the same way? A quick public confession, and all is forgiven, right? No need to change any habits which harm others. These children are being harmed. Looking at the hateful comments against Mady alone would cause any truly loving and caring mother to ax the show. Instead, Kate is begging for two more seasons past the current one. And the sheeple that slavishly trust her every word are complicit in the destruction of this family. Without those “loyal” viewers, TLC would cancel the show, taking the decision out of the hands of Kate, who has clearly demonstrated where HER priorities lie.
As much as I have opinions about each of the parents, and their disintegration…I think everyone is forgetting something big here.
If you were crazy enough to ignore your life/financial circumstances and earning capability…and just go right ahead and have 8 children (Hello OCTOMOM!) what else do you think the Gosselins could have done to feed, clothe, house, educate and entertain them? I don’t think Kate’s original plan of leaving it in God’s hands was all that sustainable.
Jon has pretty much shown an inability to be the primary breadwinner. He complains when he works and then when he doesn’t. Kate is an OCD bitchwad who can’t stop cleaning or organizing when she’s home, and is honestly a WHOLE lot more of a woman in stature and demeanor than Jon can handle. Whichever way you paint that statement, it’s true!
IN the midst of these two and their decision making, they have twins and sextuplet PREEMIES with consistent needs for medical care. (I have 2 seperate preemies myself, and even with an acceptable family income, struggle constantly. I have no real external family assistance either, as most of them have passed away.) Whether or not it was BS that Jon lost his job from insurance issues, do you REALLY think any new small PA employer would want THAT much draw from insurance on their payroll, in this economy????
Add all this up, and introduce a TV network willing to pretty much play Santa Claus/God’s left arm and deliver everything the Gosselin’s THOUGHT they could ever want or need. And if their in-laws are correct, they really don’t even have to share genuine details about their lives, just ham it up a bit and go on fabulous trips amid all the chaos and videotape it!!! Hell, they even get extra hands and get to leave once in a while! That could buy a LOT of therapy for all the kids after college and a nice fat retirement.
For everyone that thinks the Gosselins should just be righteous and pull the plug with “Enough” money…Just how much do you THINK is enough to put 8 kids through proper schooling and have a home that will hold them? It goes much quicker when you have no medical insurance or all those lovely perks.
Call the mom a bitch and the dad basically a waste of air if you will..and they are. But hey, they are not taking this to the charity level and seeking wellfare. I’d much rather get to see trips to Sesame Place, and the Please Touch Museum before taking my kids, than have to pay taxes to feed this brood!!!!
How many of you after reviewing the mediocre prospects of public schools for your kids, would turn down a chance at a “Celebrity scholarship” to educate them in private schools? Be not the hypocrite, but the realist. I pay every penny I have for 3 days a week schooling for my son, in the hopes it will be enough to keep him on the right track in public schools. It KILLS me that money might determine his fate in education. I am NOT impressed with his new kindergarten in the fall… This colours my opinions alot, as a mother who wants excellence and choices for her children!
Anyway, that’s just my take on this whole pile of drama.
So Kate is just a mom, huh? I’m just a mom, too. But, I have not seen my face on the cover of any magazines lately. I haven’t posed for any pictures, given magazine interviews, been on Oprah, Today, Dr. Phil, Larry King, or the 700 Club. Jon and Kate opened their lives up for the world to view. They need to stop complaining and accept that this is the way it’s going to be if they continue to have a show. If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen!
I agree with Maeby. By making the family rich and famous, they’ve stripped the show of it’s dynamic and made the family unrelatable (although Kate still works hard trying to convince the world that everything she does–all the speaking engagements, etc.) is all for her kids–to give them a better life. I don’t buy it. I’m sure the kids don’t want to hear their mother bad-mouth their father in magazine interviews, or see pictures of their father with other women. I’m pretty sure they’d rather have an average looking house, as long as the people in it loved each other. I used to love the show. Now, I’m so annoyed by the end of it at how Kate treats Jon and how Jon doesn’t stand up for himself that I don’t really watch anymore.
ive watched this show from the beginning. i have to say the show was much more exciting in the beginning when they were sort of struggling. you could kind of relate to them and you never knew what was gonna happen with the babies. now you know exactly what will happen. kate will be a bitch to jon. jon will just sit there with a blank stare. maddie will be a brat, cara will be lovely, and the sextuplets will play with each other occasionally crying. now i think everyone watches to see what kate will bitch about now. i’ve slowly stopped watching it. i hope those kids turn out alright. kate needs to find happiness.
8. I do not roll my eyes at nor make not-so-subtle digs at my husband in private, much less for the cameras.
9. There are no video cameras in my house rolling constantly.
Shall I go on?
For free? Seriously? WTF? Surely the area must have some poor children deserving of scholarships. I wonder how they justify free schooling for the children of parents who must be raking in millions.
OK, if these people really were struggling and couldn’t make it, I’d say the free school and clothing they receive would be a “blessing”….but clearly, they have more than enough money to live well. If I were sending my child to the private school, I’d be a bit peeved.
I used to watch all the time, but then the show became less parenting and more product placement and “experience” oriented. I want to see the new house and then I’ll tune out again.
Sheri– the “non-real job” is hanging out with the kids (and going on free vacations) when the cameras are on and then giving talks all over the country sans kids when the cameras are off. Nobody suggested stay at home parenting is not a real job. The post suggests that Jon and Kate are not really stay-at home parents. They are reality TV stars.
Sunny,
Just wondering, how is staying home with your kids not a “real job”??? I’m all for the whole Kate isn’t like us thing, but um, I stay home and feel that I have a “real job”, I just don’t get paid money for it.
6) If we had a child as clearly unhappy as Maddy is, we’d clear the house of cameras and get her into therapy.
I haven’t watched the show in years, but I’ve been told that poor Maddy seems just as miserable as ever.
Personally, I don’t buy the “Jon is having an affair” story, and if it’s just a PR scam? Daaaaamn has it ever been successful. I can’t even buy a gallon of milk without looking at the two of them on the cover of one magazine or another.
I don’t feel to comment about thier marriage, the scandals, the celebrity, but I am outraged about her haircut. I don’t know why, but it bothers me deeply.

Ha, ha, Sue, me too. =)
In a rare turn of events, I completely agree with knitty.

Nuff said.

Hook, line and sinker! That got me…I’m gonna watch it all!
Can’t stand them. Can’t stand myself for commenting on this topic. Will not watch. Must go shoot myself.
I don’t feel to comment about thier marriage, the scandals, the celebrity, but I am outraged about her haircut. I don’t know why, but it bothers me deeply.
That aside, I wish them well.
