One of my raging pet (hee) peeves is dog people who think having a dog
equals having a baby. Yes, dogs need care and you have to sort of
rearrange your life to make sure they get fed and walked and whatever,
and they’re all cute and loveable, but unless it’s been acceptable all
this time to leave my baby with a Kong toy and a bowl of water while I
go off and write for a few hours at my favorite coffeehouse, then: not
the same thing. I have a crazy dog and two children and the kids? Much,
much more work. Also less annoying, but that’s another post.

neurotic dog would prepare them for the baby they were expecting later
