Yeah, I know it's cheap just posting a YouTube video, but it's snowing here in Chicago, and I feel Christmas-y. If there is one four-minute song that can instantly recall everything that Christmas was for me as a kid, that's it. My parents had the classic A Christmas Together by John Denver and the Muppets on an LP, and my sister and I demanded it be played at all hours for the entire month of December.
It's strange though; for a kid who used to be so obsessed with Christmas, I'm not into it anymore. Sure, I still get weepy over "Alfie, The Christmas Tree" and can eat my way through a pile of gingerbread cookies, but the holiday doesn't have the same pull. This is in large part because my wife is Jewish, and I've learned a whole new context for this time of year. As most interfaith couples do (and calling it interfaith is a stretch, since there's not a lot of faith involved), we're trying to teach our son about both traditions, but it's hard; Hanukkah just can't compete with Santa.
