Welcome to Controversy, a brand-spanking new Strollerderby feature, now to run every Friday.
Controversy
was born out of the raging reader demand (okay, only one reader
actually asked for this, but I'm sure many of you were thinking about
it) for more opportunities for debate on a blog in which the number of
posts can discourage readers from getting too involved with a single
story.
So, here's how it will work: each Friday, I'll pick the
post from the previous week that garnered the most comments, or the
most hits, or seems ripe for the most interesting debate (so, sorry,
Brett - even though your post about sporks got a lot of comments,
what's left to be said that hasn't been said already?). I'll link back
to it, sum up the comments, and hopefully, you guys will pick it up and
run with it. Got it? It only works if you keep coming back and
responding to each other over the course of the week.
Our first installment features Rachael's post
reporting that Americans are dropping their affiliations with organized
religion. Although religion is a source of strife all over the world,
including prominent, bloody, long-standing conflicts in Iraq, Israel
and India, just to name a few, Rachael's data begs the question: has
religion become irrelevant here in the U.S.?
