• Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Fine Tradition, Crass Commercialism or Both?

  The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade is like so many American traditions: It's touching, earnest and a total cheesefest. We all know this, right? But somehow when you sit down to watch it with your kids -- as I am sure many of us did yesterday morning -- you see the whole marching-band, float-filled extravaganza through very different eyes. My toddler son caught a few minutes of the Herald Square madness, during which time I realized just how horrifying and lovely the parade can be.
