• Fall TV Preview: Imagination Movers - Playhouse Disney

  I should start by saying my daughter and I don't have the same taste in kids’ shows. She's more of a Dora girl; I'm more of a Yo Gabba Gabba dude. I guess I can't blame her; I mostly like Yo Gabba Gabba because it’s just so strange.  I can’t expect my four-year-old to share my cultured and detached sense of irony. Yo Gabba Gabba frightens my mother, which makes it a great kids’ show in my book.      What’s This Show About?   So my daughter, Jillian (age 4), and I recently sat down to watch the Imagination Movers a new show featuring a quartet of musicians who dabble in problem solving. The Imagination Movers live in the world's cleanest garage; you could eat an omelet off their work floor. The Movers’ are comprised of four dudes whose acting ranges from merely super excited to psychopathically enthusiastic. They make The Wiggles look like their hopped up on Quaaludes. In other words, just the right tone to get a girl Jillian’s age jazzed. Read More... • Fall TV Preview: Sid the Science Kid on PBS

  My oldest kid – she’s six – has the makings of a scientist, if only because she can’t stop asking “why?” every 30 blessed seconds. One of her all-time favorite shows (and mine, if the truth is to be told) is Fetch with Ruff Ruffman, which is a PBS Kids’ program that features an animated dog and kids who are sent out to solve problems. • Baby Survives Four-Story Fall

  In Queens, New York, a family had the worst scare of their lives followed by the relief of their lives. A one-year-old girl tumbled out of a third-story window and crashed on to the landing leading to the basement of her apartment building. Amazingly, the baby landed on two large, soft rubber balls that had been left on the landing, which reduced the impact enough to save her life. Read More... • Atlanta Baby Might Be a Superhero

  Okay, at the very least, this kid is like Bruce Willis's character in "Unbreakable." According to a story in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, one-year-old Damon Alridge recently fell 20 feet after slipping out the window of his parents' second-story apartment. The child's grandmother had been watching him when he pushed out a window screen and hurtled to the ground below, fortunately landing on grass instead of pavement. • Postal Worker Saves Baby's Life

  Things you do not expect to receive in the mail: your baby—who was supposed to be in the same room as you. But, in a tale that gives a whole new meaning to the word “serendipity,” that is precisely what an Albany mother received from her postal worker yesterday morning. Lisa Harrell was walking up to the mother’s house to deliver the mail when she looked up and saw a baby in a second-story window. At that instant, the little girl tumbled 20 feet and landed right in Harrell’s arms—arms which only happened to be there because of a last-minute special delivery on that street. Read More...
