
Pregnant? Freaked out? A new study indicates that women who are very fearful about delivery and labor
and even stuff like preterm bleeding are three times more likely to
deliver prematurely. In a survey of 1,820 women during their first
prenatal visit, the ladies were asked if they were "anxious about labor
and delivery, the health of the baby, nausea, and pain or bleeding
during early pregnancy." Then the ladies were given a score from 0-6,
with a 5 or 6 meaning "flipping-out terrified." That last bit was mine,
not the researchers, but if I had been asked to complete a
questionnaire like this during my pregnancy, I probably would have
rated like Spinal Tap, "goes to 11."
