
"Milk"
may have won two Oscars (Sean Penn for Best Actor, Dustin Lance Black
for Best Original Screenplay) but homosexuality is still a taboo topic
at many U.S. schools. Case in point: "RENT: School Edition", a toned
down version of the hit Broadway musical that closed last September.
Three productions have been canceled due to "objections about the
show’s morality, its portrayals of homosexuality and theft, and its
frank discussions of drug use and H.I.V." In other words, gay people
still make folks uncomfortable.
