Actually, I have that a bit backward: the actual study, made with actual people (300,000 of them! that's a lot in a study), correlates season of birth with chance of later developing myopia (nearsightedness). People born in the months of June and July had a 24% higher chance of later developing myopia.
The
reasoning goes, based on research done on chickens (!!), that prolonged
exposure to bright light causes the eyeball to lengthen, and longer
eyes are glasses-wearing eyes. And of course, if you're born in the
summer, you'll have a higher chance of being exposed to bright light.
Like because of the sun.
