• Sarah Palin's High School Grades?!?

  If someone is a “heartbeat” away from being the President of the United States of America, I want that person to not only be smarter than me now, but smarter than I was in high school. Sarah Palin, it appears, is not that person. There is “allegedly” a version of Sarah Palin’s (then Sarah Heath) high school grades from a "College Board Admission Testing Program" are floating around the web. With a grade point average of 2.2, she isn’t flunking, but this is far from depicting  “leader” braininess and there's not one “honors” class or A to boot. She even “allegedly” got a D in Foreign Language. But there is a lot of chatter and criticism that the report card could be a forgery. I’m not sure why any one would go through the trouble. They must have some serious time on their hands. Next tinme, maybe they could come over and clean my house instead. But in the end, this is just a good lesson for our children. • Do kids do better on tests if they get paid?

  An article in the New York Times last week looked at the practice of paying New York City students if they achieve a certain score on Advanced Placement (AP) exams. The results were "mixed." While there were more 5's (the best score you can get), there was also a "decline in the number of 4’s and 3’s. Three is the minimum passing score." So fewer kids overall actually passed, although some did score higher. Read More... • Happy Meals Flunk Out of School

  On the one hand, I think it's great that a Florida McDonald's is withdrawing from a "Made the Grade" program, in which it rewarded Happy Meals to kids who got good grades. On the other hand, why was this going on at the school in the first place?  The decision to end the program came all the way from the executives at corporate headquarters half-way across the country -- not the school leaders. • Your Kid is Probably Spoiled

  And it's all your fault.  At least, in your opinion. Because some 94% of parents polled recently by Cookie Magazine (famous for their polls) admitted that their kids were spoiled, and said it was all their fault. Did they poll me? Noooooo. • Neatness Doesn't Count, Kids, When it Comes to Handwriting

  In school I always got good grades except in two places: gym, and handwriting. Ugh, handwriting. It wasn't that I didn't want to write neatly, but who had the time? It was legible, and I always felt that legible was good enough. I had quite enough to think about without devoting my life to penmanship.
