• Teen Who Plotted School Attack Chatted Online With Finnish Teen Who Carried Out School Attack

  I love the internet because it can bring together like-minded people from all over the world who share some common interest. And in the case of teens who want to shoot up their schools in Columbine-style attacks, it did. Police report that the Finnish teenager who killed eight people before committing suicide had contact with the Philadelphia boy arrested for plotting a school attack and amassing a small arsenal. They shared video games and Columbine footage, and of course, that notorious attack was a topic of conversation.  Pekka-Eric Auvinen killed six students, the school principal, and a nurse in a rampage he foreshadowed with YouTube video posts.  Read More... • Should Teachers Take Their Guns to School?

  The short answer: no. The long answer: no fucking way. A teacher in Medford, Ore., is challenging a school district policy in state court over the right to keep and bear arms at school. She’s licensed to carry a concealed weapon and she wants to strap on her Glock 9-mm pistol everyday for work. What? Her supporters say that she has a good reason for wanting to carry a concealed and loaded weapon: an ex-husband who has allegedly made threats against her and her children. Her opponents say if teachers and staff – and heck, high school students who might be licensed to carry weapons – started bringing guns to school, the chances for accidental shootings, especially in the confusion of a school shooting, increases the danger for everyone.   After the Columbine massacre, two Boston Dads put their heads together and decided that the best way to protect their children was a bullet-proof backpack. The call them My Child's Pack. Now, I don't know exactly how dangerous the Boston public schools are, not do I know the odds of getting shot in the back as opposed to getting shot in the face, however, it seems to me that you would want the chest area protected too if you were going to go to all of the trouble to buy your child a $175 bullet-proof, knife-resistant bag that they could put their Social Studies book into.
