D'Zhana Simmons a 14-year-old girl from South Carolina, was finally
sent home this week, after living in a Miami hospital since the summer,
including over 100 days during which she had no heart. The teenager,
whose heart failed due to cardiomyopathy, had undergone a heart
transplant in July, but the transplanted heart had to be removed due to
complications, leaving her dependent on a custom-rigged set of two
heart pumps. Hooked up to the machinery for nearly four months, the
girl said, left her feeling like "a fake person." Thankfully, a second
transplant was succesful, and D'Zhana is home now for the holidays.
