of a young child this holiday season? Perhaps you've decided to make a
donation somewhere instead of buying gifts for everyone you know? In
our family, we've instituted an annual tradition of donating to Heifer International in the name of some members of our holiday gift list.
Heifer
International is a charity that fosters self-reliance among some of the
world's poorest people by giving them animals that can help sustain
them and their families. Originally called the "Heifer Project"
because cows were the primary donations, over the years, the program
has expanded to include, goats, ducks, chicks, llamas, even hives of
bees. You can donate almost any amount. A large donation might cover
the cost of a whole animal (or more) while a smaller donation buys a
"share" in an animal.
