  • Better Brains in a Juice Box

    Nestle recently launched two new types of juices in their Juicy Juice brand, one intended to boost brain power and the other to boost immunities. 

    Juicy Juice Brain Development contains 16mg of DHA, the famous Omega-3 fatty acid found in fish and essential for brain development in children under 2 years old.  Juicy Juice Immunity contains prebiotic fiber, vitamin C and zinc.

    Both juices are diluted with 30 percent water for, as the company press release says, "lower calories and sugar." This is a break from Juicy Juice's "100 Percent Juice for 100 Percent Kid," line. 

    Now, the question: does adding DHA that has been extracted from tuna fish oil to grape and apple drinks actually make your kid smarter?

  • 10 Kids Things Begging for Redesign

    I love that the brilliant minds of this era want my job of parenting to be easier -- and safer, more efficient, beautiful, convenient.

    Problem is, in the world of kids' stuff, there are so, so many misses. So much stuff designed with my fragile/blank/in need of stimulation/small/big/tired/awake children in mind winds up making my life confusing, painful, not very environmental, extra dirty, a waste of time or, or, well, you get the picture.

    Take carseats. And bath toys. And a whole bunch of other stuff that is conceptually great but pissing me off in the meantime. Here's my Top 10 List of stuff for kids that is begging to be redesigned. Please, add more in comments -- or direct me to your finds! Surely someone from Kraft/Evenflo/Proctor and Gamble is reading.
