I remember reading something years and years ago exhorting adults to always
stop and buy a lemonade from the sad little stands that hopeful kids
set up with weak, warm lemonade and cups of melting ice. I guess
the point was to acknowledge the kids' efforts and their childish
abilities to dream big, and after all, who would find the time to stop
and have a cup of warm lemonade?
Well, I guess George Clooney read the same sappy Reader's Digest article (or whatever it was) that I did, because he walked off a movie set in North Carolina yesterday and quenched his thirst at a nearby lemonade stand
set up by Carter, Chandler and Chase Fontaine, ages ten, six and
five. Although mom Courtney offered the lemonade for free (I can
just hear it now: "Moooooonmm!! We coulda made twenty-five
cents!") after posing for a few photos with Intern George, The George would have none of it and later sent over a $20 bill, refusing change.
Good
for you, George. I could be cynical here and say it was all a
little publicity stunt, but instead I'm going to take the high road and
say it's just because he's apparently a Nice Guy. Makes me want
to go out and find a kid's lemonade stand right now.
