  If you recently gave birth to a boy, you run a higher risk of getting postpartum depression. Why? Well, for starters boys require more energy. Also, women are narcissists who would prefer to have little mini-me daughters. Lastly, little boys are made of snips and snails and puppy dogs' tails. And snails are kinda slimy. All right, so maybe I am oversimplifying this MSN article, which notes a recent study in France that implies mothers of small boys are indeed more likely to become depressed. Read More... • 7-Year-Old Girl Puts Herself Between Mom and Bullets

  Hey, it's time to get weepy with the Derby. See, sometimes as parents we can barely write about the stuff in the news because we use up too many tissues and risk electrocution from tears on our laptops. But let's give it a go anyway: Selitha Parker dated Calvin Tillie for a few months before breaking it off. But Tillie kept calling and bothering Parker, and on December 2, when Parker and her 7-year-old daughter Alexis Goggins climbed into the SUV of a friend on the way to the friend's mom's birthday party, Tillie jumped into the backseat of the vehicle next to Alexis. He pulled a gun and forced them to drive around, until the friend convinced Tillie she needed to stop for gas and called 911 with the station attendant. • New Reality Show Taints Mother-Daughter Activities Everywhere Forever

  Forget sack races and girls outings and mommy-and-me music classes: The CW network has just killed the sweet, innocent joy in every mom-and-girl activity by taking the most grotesque thing ever and televising it. Tonight is the premiere of Crowned. Mom and daughter teams live in a house, hiss at the other family units, and compete in--ta da!--a mother-daughter beauty pageant. Because beauty pageants and stage moms and women who fairly panic about losing their looks aren't nearly sad enough on their own: We have to see a combination, and then some. As Jessica said, "I just can't wait for the stretch mark montage where the moms cry about how their 'badges of honor' have all been worth it now that their daughters are anorexic and compulsive exercisers with tiaras and sceptors and then the daughters cry about how they hope they never get stretch marks like their moms even though their moms are like, otherwise, totally awesomely cool people." • Television Moms and Daughters You Know and Love

  BuzzSugar compiled a list of the most memorable television mother-daughter pairings ever. I sort of wonder if Mike and BuzzSugar have formed some unholy alliance, because Lorelai and Rory Gilmore top the list. The Cosby Show and Beverly Hills, 90210 get nods, as does one of my favorite shows of all time: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. When Joyce died... Whoa, hold on a second, I've got something in my eye... I prefer some of the other duos mentioned, like Sophia and Dorothy from Golden Girls, because I love the zany-mom and sane-daughter combination. But my choice for very best mother-daughter team on television ever didn't even get mentioned. I vote for (drumroll): Edina and Saffy from Absolutely Fabulous. Saffy is prudish, bookish, and constantly humiliated by her mother. Edina is, well, all kinds of effed up. She's a drunk, petulant, narcissistic creep who couldn't rouse herself to a maternal feeling if her life depended on it. The result is a nice role reversal, with a mom who never grows up and a daughter who is annoyingly old beyond her years. Hilarious. It's the whole reason I lovingly call my daughter, "sweetie-darling". No other television familial combo even comes close to the painfully wicked humor of that relationship. • Mother and Daughter Give Birth Minutes Apart

  Yeeah. I admit, I'm a bit skeeved by this. An Ohio mother and her daughter gave birth to their respective babies just minutes apart last week, in the same hospital. Maybe it's just me, but this seems a little weird, though of course entirely possible for probably a lot of moms and daughters. Still, would you want your mom to have a baby that's the same age as yours? Or would you want the same thing from your daughter? And what about the kids? Does it ever stop being weird (or funny, depending on how you look at it) pointing at a kid your age and your size and saying, "Oh, he's my nephew"? Or...maybe it's just another really close family who won't mind the potentiality for weird? What do you think?
