it be nice if your body retained its shape after having a baby? But
unless you’re up for a surgical nip and tuck, you’re stuck. Some
medically experimental new mothers in the United Kingdom are trying to
fight the effects that breastfeeding has on their boobs by taking drugs
originally intended for HIV positive women to stop the ability to
lactate.
The anti-lactation drug is called cabergoline and it suppresses the
production of proloactin. Although its’ general use is for those who
are HIV positive (since HIV can be passed via breastmilk), it is now
being prescribed to moms for what they call ‘social reasons’. Instead
of just letting nature take its course and let their milk ‘dry up’,
busy mums are taking this shortcut to avoid engorged breasts,
discomfort and the ‘myth’ that breastfeeding is what leads to less than
perky breasts.
