This
is something that you would hope wouldn't happen anymore, like
lobotomies. This isn't that bad, of course, but the fact that it
happens as often as it does is pretty alarming.
According to an article
in the New York Times, a large number of students with autism, ADHD and
other diagnoses are being forcibly restrained when they misbehave. I
say "misbehave" because, according to the Times, "defying a teacher’s
instructions – 'noncompliance' – can invite a takedown or time alone in
a locked room."
