When I was an angst-filled teenager, I'd sometimes run away from home. Want to know how tough and bad-ass I was? I would run away and hang out at the library! The problem was that I never had any money so I'd usually have to crawl back home so I could get something to eat. Apparently, times seem to have changed. And nothing demonstrates that better than the recent runaway case of 17-year-old George Lenon.
It turns out Lenon got into an argument with his parents over his schoolwork and ran away to NYC. The weird part? He lived in London! Having stolen money from his well-off parents, Lenon took a taxi to Heathrow Airport and then bought a one-way ticket to JFK Airport. The NY Post reveals that Lenon stayed at the Jazz on the Park Hostel at West 106th Street for one night and stayed at a movie theater another night. His mother said, "He was depressed at home, and he though New York was an exciting adventure."
Ironically, Lenon was busted at JFK Airport because he wanted to extend his stay! So basically, a rich kid wanted to run away and decided to take a long weekend in NYC. Sounds like a great adventure to me.
