As much as I dislike being a major downer, some depressing news just
has to be shared. In a harsh reminder that the war against militants in
Afghanistan is far from over and far from under control, recent airstrikes in
Western Afghanistan killed 90 civilians,
including 60 children—that is, according to a U.N. investigation and President
Hamid Karzai’s government.
The U.S.
coalition—whose troops conducted the airstrikes in conjunction with Afghan forces—claims
that the strikes resulted in the deaths of 25 militants and five civilians.
