• Study: Women Still Stand By Their Men

  Between being stay-at-home/work-at-home mom for almost six years and moving every time my husband’s job requires it, I feel like I’m going to get my feminist credentials downgraded to a Focus on the Family pledge form. I swear, I SWEAR, I don’t think men are more important than women, or that my husband’s career happiness is more important than mine. It’s just that what he wants to do has geographical restrictions and what I want to do, well, it’s portable. But I know what it looks like. I just wish this following study weren’t actually reporting the facts: to a majority of American couples, the husband’s career is still more important than the wife’s. A study showed that gender roles are still entrenched and that more often than not, it’s the woman who takes a career hit or gives up a career in order for her husband to pursue his. Really? Still?! • Working Mom Woes: Another Study, More Venom

  A recent British study reveals non-breeder people resent the hell out of working moms (not dads, mind you) and all their sick time, maternity leave, kid-meeting-going ways.  Or so it appears at first glance.  Over at Broadsheet, Carol Lloyd rightly points out that "...it's a shame that this survey almost exclusively nabs headlines as a catfight in the making because a couple of its findings are truly disturbing." Nevertheless, I still don't understand why everyone is so bent out of shape about people taking time off to care for family members (small, innocent, cute ones even)?? • Perpetuating the Mommy Wars

  Hello, I thought we were done with this. I guess I was wrong. But there's something about this piece over at The Imperfect Parent trashing stay-at-home moms who complain abut their lives and the judgment they receive that rubs me the wrong way. Is it possible I am looking for someone else to make me feel good about myself, because I have been a stay-at-home mom (and now a work-at-home mom, woo) for the past 12 years and have no self-esteem as a result? Probably, at least according to the Imperfect Parent piece. After all, we all derive our identities from our jobs, don't we? (<-- sarcasm) And if our jobs are [in the eyes of others] nothing but wiping butts and noses, guess what that makes us??   Read More... • Parents Make Rockin' Managers

  Despite the bad rap that parents get for missing work and being preoccupied with their children, they are highly effective managers.  In fact, people who are more committed to their families achieve better reviews than their counterparts (the childless and uncommitted?). It goes without saying that many leadership traits needed to be a successful manager translate directly from home and hearth (multi-tasking anyone?).  However, the study warns against drawing too much correlation between the two functions.  After all, successful people tend to be engaged in various aspects of their life including but not limited to raising their children. Now then.  How about that study that shows parents make better lovers?
