Teen Girl's Mom Throws Prostitution Party

Cops don't yet know if two teen girls dancing partially nude at a cash-for-sex party were part of the crew of prositutes. They do know who was running the party - the mom of one of the sixteen-year-old girls.

Police broke up what amounted to a temporary brothel in Detroit took the daughter into protective custody. They sent her mother off to jail, along with several men who seemed to be involved in a scheme that required johns to pay a $15 cover charge to get into the party and another fee to have sex with one of the nineteen adult women in the house. In a statement released by the Wayne County Sheriff, police say they don't know if the girls were paid for sex. I don't think it matters.

We've written fairly regularly on the 'Derby about parents who seem to cross the line of permissive when it comes to sex and their teenagers, but pimping parents are another class entirely. Kids will have sex, often before we want them to (trust me, as the mother of a girl, I am NOT looking forward to this day). But letting someone pay to have a look-see at your teenage daughter - even if they don't touch - sounds like sexual abuse to me.

It has been decided that former governor of New York Eliot Spitzer – aka the Tainted Gov – will not face criminal charges for repeatedly visiting a prostitute.

The New York Times reports that the reason is because, well, the Johns usually don't get charged. "It’s not surprising,” said Andrew B. Lachow, who once ran the public corruption unit in the United States attorney’s office in Manhattan that has for months been investigating Mr. Spitzer. "There just wasn’t much there that would have called for prosecution."

Now wait a minute.

What happened to if you do the crime, you do the time? Isn't this an open and shut case? I realize that everyone is entitled to a defense, and that trials cost money. But when you get caught red-handed, and when everybody else involved is facing criminal charges, isn't this just a tad unfair?

In other words – if it's hard out here for a pimp, shouldn't it be hard for their customers as well?

The Times article continues: "From the outset, the story of Mr. Spitzer and his patronage of the now-defunct Emperor’s Club V.I.P. read more like a moral tale than a legal one." OK. But he broke the law. Right? "In laying out his decision not to prosecute Mr. Spitzer, Michael J. Garcia, the United States attorney in Manhattan, said he had three main rationales: Mr. Spitzer had apparently not used any public money or campaign funds for his trysts; there was insufficient evidence that he had broken the law in how he had structured payments to the call-girl ring; and, finally, it was not the policy of his or other federal prosecutors’ offices to charge the customers in matters of prostitution."

The real kicker is the last one. Basically, visiting a prostitute is illegal, but if you get caught, you probably won't face any punishment.

The good thing – sort of – is that this doesn't appear to be special treatment for Spitzy, according to attorney Patricia A. Pileggi, a former prosecutor. The financial reasoning behind not charging him is vaguely complicated; to me it sounds like he did what they would accuse him of, but perhaps it would be too difficult to prove in court.

I'm not anti-prostitution. I think it might – MIGHT – even be a good idea to legalize it. (That's a much bigger issue, obviously.) But right now it's against the law. Shouldn't the guys who do it be charged?

A pregnant prostitute is apparently making the rounds of Brisbane, Australia servicing men with a pregnancy fetish. Which begs the question, do guys really get turned on by pregnant women?

I'm not arguing that pregnancy can be very becoming for some women. I've seen that glow all those "miracle of life" movies are always going on about. Not in my mirror, but you know, it's out there . . . somewhere. That my skin took on a sallow pallor was proof that I spent all day, every day over my toilet; I just prefer to say I was trying aristocracy out for nine months. Point being - I was lucky my husband still found me attractive. He was even kind enough not to tell me about the stretch marks spreading across my rear end. I'll spare you the details of the discussion we had once I made that discovery.

What I had going for me is what most women have - I was carrying his baby, the little creature we'd planned for and finally made (no more details there either, I won't make you barf, I promise). And, of course, I was still me. I had the same face, albeit sallow with puffier cheeks and morning sickness barf breath (sorry, details, details, I know). So husbands, boyfriends, lesbian partners . . . they'll be attracted to us. Maybe even extra attracted because of the power of the pregnant woman, the lady who is carrying around your unborn child.

Still not getting what makes pregnancy itself attractive to anyone else though. Attracted to the woman who just happens to be pregnant . . . yeah, got that. You don't lose your looks just because you're pregnant (morning sickness and big belly aside). But attracted to her because she's pregnant? Hello, McFly, she just made it with another guy and it's staring you in the face (and bumping you in the tummy).

Apparently no one told Virginia Neel Blaker you aren't supposed to put carbonated beverages in a sippy cup. They didn't tell her not to serve beer to a toddler either. Oh yeah, and not to do it front of the police.

The New Mexico mom hit the trifecta in the competition for Dopiest Mom in America this week when a group of undercover officers were at her home to buy drugs from Neel-Blaker and her husband, James Blaker. First officers said they watched her give the couple's 18-month-old daughter a sip of beer from a can. Then she grabbed the baby girl's sippy cup and filled 'er up - "to make the baby sleep."

Perhaps she read Brett's post last week asking if anyone out there really thinks it's a good idea to give a 4-year-old a brewski? The cops said previous purchases of heroin and marijuana at the house, plus her offers to have sex with them for $100 apiece, suddenly took a backseat to the child abuse in front of them. Gee, you mean a mom who trafficks heroin out of her family's home isn't mother of the year material?

The little girl has been taken into custody by New Mexico authorities while her parents are in jail. At least one of us will be sleeping better.

As families use the long weekend to take trips to one of 548 national wildlife refuges, what they might find instead is a hiding place for criminal activity and neglected trails and visitor centers.

According to the National Refuge Association, the nation's refuges are underfunded by as much as 43%. As a result, there has been a dramatic increase in drugs, prostitution, and other criminal activity.

Not surprising, given that law enforcement positions have been reduced from 845 to 180 over the past few years.

Poor Teddy. This is surely not what he intended back in 1903 when he created the nation's refuge system.

The image of the geisha catering to the every whim of her male clients is a longstanding Japanese stereotype. But now, the modern ladies of Tokyo are lining up for some pampering of their own, courtesy of the increasingly popular "geisha guys" - male escorts that earn up to $50,000 for an evening of "companionship."

Industry spokespeople insist that no sexual favors are exchanged, but claim that wealthy, working , independent women are happy to pony up for attention, compliments and fun without the commitment of a relationship.

I know this represents a real upending of traditional gender roles in Japan, and should probably be applauded. But I can't help but find it pathetic that women are paying the price of a luxury automobile for men they don't know to tell them how pretty they are. Is that really progress?

I guess it's more of a reflection of my own hang-ups than anything else that I see exploitation of women in all forms of sexual commerce - it doesn't matter whether they're the ones paying for ~~sex~~ companionship, or the ones selling it. Which doesn't make any sense, I know. After all, no one is forcing Japanese women to flock to clubs and engage the services of these male geishas. And maybe it is empowering to have a handsome boy toy at your beck and call.

But it just seems more sad and lonely than anything else.

Pimping Kids Is Just a Mother's Way

When the big controversy over David Shuster saying Hilary was "pimping" out Chelsea hit, I was actually kinda jealous. Yeah, it's probably an offensive way to describe Chelsea doing her part for the campaign, and aside from conjuring up images of Hilary wearing a hat with a feather in it and a shiny suit, it certainly implies that Ms. Clinton is just using her daughter for her own selfish interests without any consideration of the wellbeing of her girl. But my envy sprung from another source: How lucky for Hilary that her kid will actually do stuff to help her mom out. My kid has been resisting pimping efforts since the day she was born, refusing to demonstrate her language skills on command or do cute things for the relatives or seem at all obedient or gifted when I'd like her to show off for anyone. No tricks for her, and if I'm in danger of suspension, that pun is totally unintended.

On HuffPo, there's an amazingly funny bit by Linda Keenan on the myriad ways she pimps out her child. Not only did I cry laughing, but I got a few ideas on ways I might finally be able to successfully pimp the kid (the bad music one is a stroke of genius, as is the firefighter oogling.) And I have to tell you that since it's almost Valentine's Day, I'm completely in love with Linda Keenan, she's a surefire blast of funny and irreverent in the middle of far too many uptight, righteous, and earnest posts over there (not all are like that of course, but some, oh my lord...) Yep, I'd ho that woman's brilliant stuff out any day.

Researchers in Singapore have observed behavior in Indonesian macaques that they have called a primitive form of prostitution.

Apparently, female macaques were more than twice as likely to have sex with males that groomed them first, as "payment." They were also less likely to offer themselves to other males for sex right after the grooming session.

The researchers were reluctant to voice the obvious conclusion, that every woman who has ever let a man bring her flowers or buy her a drink before sleeping with him is also prostituting herself. But don't take it personally - if whoring is hardwired into our DNA, a product of evolutionary biology, then why fight it?

The report closes with the seemingly irrelevant note that the researchers are sitting on fifty packs of black market bubble gum they don't know what to with, accompanied by a local address and telephone number.

Deadbeat Pimp

Sometimes, you do what you gotta do, especially if you have eight kids by seven baby mommas. Let's say, for instance, you're really good with computers, you know a couple attractive women, and you owe $70,000 grand in child support. That's right, you start an internet prostitution ring!

Oh, if it were all so simple and pimps were cool and cuddly like Huggy Bear. Unfortunately, investigators allege that the 26-year-old wannabe Bishop Don Magic Juan from Everett, Washington, "controlled at least two women through intimidation and violence." He rented hotel rooms for tricks and advertised his services on Craigslist. Police think he may have earned as much as $300,000 in the past two years, but kept the cash in boxes at home because he was afraid if he put it in a bank, the state would catch up to him and make him pay.

The story has all the unsavory hallmarks of prostitution that have nothing to do with leopard print and gold chalices. The man allegedly held two women against their will, carried a gun, beat them regularly, and threatened more violence if they ever left. Police finally pinned him down when a mother found her daughter's picture on Craigslist, advertising sex.

I know I shouldn't look at stuff like this, because I start losing my faith in humanity and such, but sometimes I just can't help myself. Mom and prostitute Wendy Cook brought her eight-week-old son and five-year-old daughter with her to work turning tricks. She had her kids in the car with her while she smoked crack 10 or 11 times, and, well, at one point the police say she snorted cocaine off her baby's stomach while she was breastfeeding him. Clearly one of those situations when breast is not best.

And yes, it gets worse. She also had her children in the car with her while she gave guys blow jobs. Her five-year-old was awake in the backseat. Good lord.

You know, stories like this are presented to foster outrage against such abusive parenting, but you know what? My immediate and most lasting emotion is heartbreak for those kids. Clearly by the time a mom is doing coke and having sex for money with her kids in the car, she's slid past a point most of us will ever know. Man, how I feel for those poor babies.

It's Hard Out There For A Pimp!

As a father raising a young daughter, I've always believed that as long as I keep her off not only a future E! True Hollywood Story but also away from the stripper pole, I'll have done my job. Well, it seems that another low-expectation parenting goal that I forgot to add is ensuring that she doesn't choose prostitution as a viable career choice.

Thankfully, a convicted pimp from Arizona has made an educational video warning teen girls about the dangers of prostitution. The 20-minute video, the brainchild of Judge Lex Anderson of Lake Pleasant Justice Court, will be completed by the end of January and 1,500 DVDs are to be distributed, including to schools. The convicted pimp, Antoin Thurman, helped with the video by describing how he recruited girls at malls and clubs and lured them into selling their bodies. Thurman said that teen prostitutes are traded like cattle and beaten, don't keep their money and can be lured into the profession with sweet talk and designer handbags.

Surprisingly, Thurman doesn't mention the dangers involved in not bringin’ enough of that money back to yo’ pimp!

But, in all seriousness, I'm glad to see concerned citizens like Judge Anderson take an innovative approach to battling some of the challenges facing young teens today. It's always good to see people thinking out of the box. Rock on, Judge!
