Six-Year Old Told to Walk Home Alone from School

Some confusion about pick-up policies in a Chicago suburban school sent a six-year old packing for home on her own. Except she had never walked home before and had no idea where home was. Instead she wandered around until a family friend recognized her. In all, her frantic mother, Kandi Stone, was searching for her for over two hours.

Stone is so distraught (and says her daughter is still having nightmares about being lost) that she's taken her daughter out of school and put her in private tutoring in a teacher's home.

Meanwhile, school officials are apologetic and claim they have revised pick-up plans to avoid similar mistakes in the future. It's hard to say how much to blame the school--scary but understandable mistake? Or unforgivable breech of children's safety?

Parents Forget 3 Year Old at Airport

It’s a given that anytime you take a vacation you’re gonna forget something behind. A pair of socks, that copy of Breaking Dawn you’re reading. It’s a little bit more of an alarming sign if you leave your kid behind. And then don’t realize it until you are informed by airline staff…once you’re already in the air.

A couple on route to a European vacation somehow succeeded in getting their 18 suitcases and four children on the plane. Only problem was, they have five children.

We’ve all seen Home Alone and know full well what kind of wacky hijinks an adorable young man and a couple of rascally burglars can get into. Then there’s The Terminal, where we’re delighted by the wacky hijinks of an adorable foreign man and a rascally airport manager. Put them together and you’ve got this story. Except, not wacky and utterly stupid on the parents’ part.

The lost little girl did manage to reunite with her family in Paris on the next flight.

Family Forgets 18-Month-Old At Airport

There's a reason why flight attendants always remind passengers to make sure they have all their belongings before disembarking: people are forgetful, and easily distractible. So forgetful that maybe those stewardesses should start reminding them to make sure they have everything before they get back ON the plane. You know, layovers can be so chaotic, with everyone rushing around to eat, maybe make some phone calls, use the restroom, that it's easy to lose track of important things like your passport, your visa . . . and your children?

That's what happened to a Filipino family yesterday. The family was emigrating to Winnipeg, and got off the plane during a layover in Vancouver. The boy's parents and grandparents weren't sitting together on the plane, and when they boarded again, each pair assumed the toddler was with the other pair.

And basically, they didn't realize they left their kid wandering around the Vancouver airport until airline employees found the boy - who, because he was a lap child, had no boarding pass or other identification - and cleverly used passenger manifests to figure out who he must be, and contacted the pilot.

Once the plane landed, the father immediately flew back to Vancouver to get the boy.
