There's a lot of talk about carbon footprints and bicycling on the internets these days, friends, and if you're not busy changing your lightbulbs and cranking up the hybrid car (that's how they work, right?), well...then you should at least be reading blog posts about people who are loving up the Earth from inside their homes (that's your cue to turn down the AC, lovies). This week, these bloggers make me feel like natural living:

Strollerderby Playdate: Where Have All the Babies Gone?

And so it goes: The cute little buggers grow up. You bring them home all swaddled tight in a crappy little hospital blanket that you will never, ever throw away and three minutes later, their sitting on the big potty. Ninety seconds after that, they need prom dates and braces and a good dermatologist. And of course, that's the blessing and the stuff of tear-warped scrapbooks.

In the whir of holidays and schedules and pick-ups and drop-offs and the fast-forward of our daily living to take pause and just look at these children, sprung up out of round bellies and thigh rolls, coos from the crib and little parties at all hours of the morning. Even as we celebrate their triumphs and successes, even as we toss the training wheels and cheer for the end of the binky dependency, will we always have a little lust for the babies they are, or at least, once were?

Catherine from Her Bad Mother's watching her little bird take flight.

Susan from Friday Playdate's sure someone's replaced her baby with a giggle-happy curiousity-stricken kid.

Our own CityMama's watching her girls grow up on the beaches of Hawaii (and making my own concrete back"yard" seem even sadder).

RockstarMommy's baby hasn't become a toddler, he's become a terrorist who is plotting to kill her.

Strollerderby Playdate: Around the House

After having a spirited conversation about our homes and how big they are (or aren't), I thought it might be fun to peek in on what is actually going on inside those 4BR/2BAs and adamantly 700 sq ft/1 BA abodes for today's Playdate. Whether moving or staying put, getting into full summer activity mode or philosophically contemplating big parenting dilemmas like booger-avoidance, these mamas will give you a tour of the haps in their homes:

Susan at Friday Playdate is determined to HAVE FUN, DAMMIT! even though she's a bit crabbers that the house her fam's moving out of is so keen on pissing her off.

Danielle and the Foodmomiac fam are doing moving prep and pack, too. She's stuck on switching her daughter to a good old neighborhood school, all over a pound of (why do you do this to me, Danielle?) buttery lobster.

Wacky Mommy is tired. And old. And experiencing some big time neighbor bulb-lust. You will totally relate. Well, as soon as you find your own purse.

The Sarcastic Journalist is all oogy over germs outside the house -- at the grocery store, at the children's museum and in the kiddie-snot smeared all over her face. I'd say eewww but we all get it. Oh, do we get it.
