A store employee called police and followed Rodriguez (and stroller) into Wal-Mart, where he tried to blend in with the crowd. The employee was dogged, however, and kept an eye on the perp until police arrived.

"Step-dad of the Year" Rodriguez was charged with attempted grand larceny and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

I must admit that I have had to be reminded on more than one occasion to pay for certain items in the basket of my stroller, having completely forgotten that I put them in there while dealing with the joy that is a screaming, poopy, cranky, tired, hungry baby. (And always while paying for items that were actually within my sight, like clothes hanging from the stroller handles or a potty seat precariously balanced across said handles.)

But $1,000 worth of video games? That's a lot to forget.

Related Posts:

Joe Biden's Daughter Allegedly Caught on Tape Snorting Cocaine; Do We Care?

Schools Start Later So Teens Can Sleep In

Pregnant Woman Booted from Local Pub

Project Runway Winner Designs Fierce Maternity Wear

Another Duggar Kid on the Way

Stroller As Gun Rack

I'm not a hunter, so I'd never heard of a "shooting cart" before. At first glance, my reaction to this was similar to that of Internet entrepreneur Jason Calcanis, who seems amazed by its very existence. Or one of his commenters, who says, "ha, ha...you know you're a redneck when...."

Looking more closely, though, it seems that this is not an uncommon item. From another commenter: "I actually know several people that have these. They are used for 3 gun competitions because it is very hard to safely carry 3 guns around a shooting range. They are built from the ground up as a shooting cart. This is not a stroller it just looks like one." Greg at DaddyTypes also points out that this is a normal looking item – if you hunt.

Despite the fact that it's not really a stroller, I do think it would be fun if our favorite soldier mom who gave birth in her barracks used this to transport her budle of joy. I mean, come on. We all need a good chuckle these days.

Initial commie-pinko-liberal reaction aside ("OMG HOW CAN YOU PUT A BABY IN THAT THING THATS SO WRONG LOL"), I have to admit that as my younger son rapidly outgrows his stroller, I'd been wondering what to do with it. Maybe I can start hunting, or just look like I am. Rolling this down Second Avenue would definitely get me attention in Manhattan.

Source: Jason Calcanis via DaddyTypes

Read more:

Soldier Gives Birth At Army Barracks

Morning News - Cheney, Duct Tape, Outer Space

UPDATE - Austrian Incest Dad Pleads Guilty To Some Charges

OctoMom Video Blog at RadarOnline

December Photo Contest: Winter Wonderland

In the countrywide protests over South
Korea’s agreement to import U.S. beef,
at least one woman has resorted to an unlikely weapon of dissent. To thwart
police efforts to shut down protests of the import deal, a mother used her own
baby to keep the health concerned protestors going strong.

In Seoul,
police were using water canon vehicles
to disperse crowds of protestors. But one mother took a courageous (or thoughtless?) gamble:
she positioned her baby stroller in front of the vehicles, in the hopes that
police would not have the heart to hose her child. When police asked her to
move, she replied, “I’ll only move aside after the water canon vehicles move
away.”

Fortunately, the mother’s gamble was a winning one. Other
protestors surrounded the woman and her baby stroller, discouraging police from
removing her by force. After about 30 minutes, the water cannon vehicles drove
away and the protests continued.

Was the mother wrong to use her child—in potentially
dangerous ways—to make a political statement? Or was she courageously defending
her fellow citizens’ right to protest?
AP Photo/Ahn Young-joon

Pregcellent: What Gear Do You Need?

There's a post on HuffPo about some fairly ridiculous gadgets for parents. You can get a fancy-pants baby timer for tracking your baby's sleep and nap and diaper schedule, presumably to help avoid the age-old question, "Crap, when did the baby last eat?" Of course, when I had a newborn I could barely dial a phone number, much less program a handheld device with four timers. And there's also the LENA System, which records conversations between you and your baby and analyzes them on a computer. I know I would not want to be caught on tape making annoying babbling sounds, but perhaps this is good practice for the kid should they ever come under government surveillance. But perhaps you own these things, and find them indispensable.

'Course this all raises the question: What exactly do you need? Anywhere from a dresser drawer and a couple diapers, to a pre-warmed sleigh crib and video monitor, depending on who you ask. Part of the problem is that it's hard to know what your baby will even like, and what you'll find easiest to use. My child abhorred the baby swing, and I found the metronome noise it made put me, not my kid, to sleep. However, our vibrating bouncy seat made three months of showering possible. Other could-go-either-way items include the special bed co-sleeping attachment or a crib; a frontpack (versus sling); white noise machines (try the vacuum cleaner in a pinch); diaper wipe warmers; and exersaucers. We got the most life out of our baby bjorn, our cheap-o folding stroller, and the high chair. But if I could have made one slightly more extravagant purchase, what would I have invested in? Screw the LENA System--I would have gotten a night nurse.

Quinny Strollers Launch in U.S. But Don't Launch Rockets. $500, and look like a pint-sized, impotent version of the Imperial TIE-fighters of the Republic? Perhaps my eye is untrained, but they all look the same to me, with their space age design and snap on parts. Which one comes with a tractor beam?

Setting the new Quinny Buzz Capri apart from its high-end competitors - the Bugaboo and the Uppababy - is certainly not its goofball name (God, just think of the consumer base they'd tap into if these things were called Twin Ion Street Rollers and Sith Infiltrators! It's a goldmine!) No, the Quinny's defining characteristic is its highly touted "automatic unfolding mechanism," and the claim that this stroller unfolds itself!! What, no ejection seat? The $499 price tag is considerably less than the tag hanging off the other models, but does not include an infant carrycot, a shade, a cup holder, or even rocket boosters. There is the Quinny Zapp Carpri, which is much more affordable at $199, but doesn't recline or have a storage basket, and it doesn't fly.

There is no arguing that these strollers look clean and fight dirty, but if you are a person who uses their stroller often, you need things like a storage basket, and a cup holder, and a reclining seat, don't you? I know I do. Is cool worth sacrificing convenience? I mean, one minute you could be out for a simple walk around the block, and the next minute you could be fighting Jedis, and it could be days before you get back to the Deathstar. And as a parent, you've got to be prepared.

Anyone out there get their hands on a Quinny yet? Do you love it or hate it? How does it compare to its starfighter brethren? Does it float?

Designer Graco Stroller To Benefit Pediatric AIDS Foundation

Designer/mom Cynthia Rowley has teamed up with Graco to create The Graco Mosaic "Be Fruitful" Stroller. The stroller has been signed by 17 celebrity mothers, and will be auctioned off on eBay starting February 1, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

The Mosaic stroller was first created in October 2006, to raise funds for the EGPAF. It retails for $299 and again, 100% of the net proceeds go to the EGPAF. You can order one for yourself, or an expectant friend, here. You can learn more about, and enter, eBay's "Be Fruitful" auction here.

My first - in long line - of strollers was a Graco, and I hated everything about it. But perhaps the production and functionality of the brand has improved since 2004 (?) - the design certainly has. Do you have a Graco that you are happy with? If so, will you bid on the "Be Fruitful" piece? Are you unhappy with your Graco, but willing to buy The Mosaic model, to benefit such a worthy cause? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
