To reach out to your offspring would you a) continue to call, email and text b) drive across town to talk in person or c) put a post on your website, airing your dirty laundry for all to see. If you are Candy Spelling, your riff with your celebrity daughter would drive you to to the very public choice c.

In the open letter, Candy reiterates what she wrote in her book "Stories from Candyland", that was released last month, by saying “I was a celebrity by marriage, then a celebrity by motherhood. That means my life is public. I’m used to it. It comes with the territory.” What prompted this attempt at outreach? A new Tori Spelling book entitled Mommywood is being released today. Candy believes “the war of words will escalate” and this is her way to perhaps diffuse the daughter mother bomb.

This duo seems to be communicating more via their published books then over a nice holiday dinner. If you were in Candy’s heels would you issue a “public letter” or try harder to resolve it privately? Or do you think this is just a part of a publicity stunt to promote her own book which was recently released (with a Amazon rank of #366 vs. Tori's new book at #104).

Via Perez Hilton

Potty Dance? Sweet mother of – I mean — I just --- there are no words for the wrongness of this. No words. At all. And I don’t mean wrongness in the funny, “I should SOOOO not be laughing at this but I am” way, but the “Are you KIDDING me? Who thought THIS up? And does Kimberly-Clark distribute crack in the lunchroom because this is the only possible way this ad campaign got approved?” way.

For those of you who have been blessed to not see the ad or the video itself, it urges children to “do the potty dance -- put one hand out, then the other, let them drop (which means grab your crotch) and HULA HOOP!”

Yeah. That annoying thing your kid does when they have to go and have waited too long? That you are trying to discourage them from doing and use their words instead? Now we’re meant to teach them to do it as a cutesy little dance apparently.

And it gets better – there’s Tori Spelling. And a video contest.

The sad thing is, I know there are parents out there giggling and thinking this is adorable – and everybody else on the planet is thinking parents are actually stupid enough to think this thing is cute or funny. Me? I have Pull-Ups in my house. This not only makes me want to never buy them again, I want to set the ones I already have afire in protest. It’s a triple threat of insipid, cheesy, and crude.

But can I have whatever the creatives who thought this up are smoking?

Photo: Associated Press

Should a C-Section Earn You a Bad Eco-Grade?

I was super excited when I saw the feature Celebrity Birthing Footprints over on the eco-fashion website Sprig. All the recent big-name baby producers are represented in their slideshow (as well as a few smaller ones -- hey, Ethan Hawke's lady just gave birth). And there's nothing I love more than taking down environmentally self-righteous celebs, whose carbon/trash/consumer footprints alone are waaaaaaaaay huger than an entire new housing development's silly Hummer-driving, McMansion-erecting, meat-eating suburbanites.

Alas, the piece disappoints. First, none of these celebrities is doing anything more than the rest of us to go green -- even superficially. Second, the little project is inconsistent -- there's no rubric for how they're determining letter grades.

Plus, I think I uncovered this dirty little secret: they're dinging celebrities who got c-sections! (I mean, maybe c-sections are melting polar icecaps, but then they need to point that out.)

Summary:

A's went out to Jessica Alba, Jack Black and Soleil Moon-Frye. Oddly, Jack Black gets the A for saying if he were president, each car in the country would have a solar panel on the
roof. (Wow! So engaged!)

Know who gets a C? Tori Spelling, whom they congratulate for
using cloth diapers. But she had a c-section, so I suppose she's lucky
she didn't flunk.

Other C's, a D and a D- go out to Jamie Lynn Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie (who's international birthing needs cancel out any recycling and Prius-driving they may do around the Chateau). Anyway, you tell me, what do these baby-makers have in common? That's right: surgical birth.

My conspiracy theory unravels with Nicole Ritchie. She earned a C+, but from what I can find online, she gave birth vaginally. So why the low grade? Toxic oversized sunglasses?

Here's what I would have liked to see: more talk about these very rich people committing to smaller homes, smaller cars, less air travel (please stop going to Vegas for the weekend, Christina), lower water use, lower consumption overall (for God's sake, rewear something once in a while). And, yes, maybe solar panels as far as the eye can see (though not on the roof of the car. Do you know what that would do to the gas mileage?)

Budget Baby: 10 More Ways to Live Green for Less

It's Hard Out There for a Mom Who Says 'No'

18 Kids From One Vagina: Woman Births 18th Child

Condom Maker Offers $1Mil to Miley Cyrus to Sell Rubbers

Photo: Sprig.com

Donna Martin Elaborates...

...or should I say, Tori Spelling shares more information about her second pregnancy.

The actress/author/TMZ regular admits that her daughter Stella was not planned. She told People.com: "I was on one pill and wasn't feeling well, so I went off of it. Two
days later, the doctor put me on another, and on that one day, we
conceived. It was meant to be!"

After our recent discussions about the reluctance to admit when a pregnancy was unintended, it's interesting to hear a celebrity confess to the same thing. (Of course, she never said she ever struggled with the news, but whatev. You take what you can get.)

Some people probably don't care to know this information about Ms. Spelling. Others think it's terrible that she said the child was "an accident," at least if the comments associated with this blog post are any indication.

But in some weird way, I was heartened to hear her say it. Tori may be embarassed by some of her "90210" episodes. But there's no shame in acknowledging that a child is an unexpected surprise, and a happy one at that.

Best of FameCrawler: Week of June 27th

Billie Piper's Topless Role

The Sexualization of Miley Cyrus

Ben And Jen Together For Better Or Worse

Worst-Dressed Bellies? you saw Candy Spelling's essay on Joan Crawford, which appeared yesterday on Babble.com, you probably immediately clicked in search of the answer to the question: "What's she say about her daughter's book?"

Candy Spelling, wife of late TV drama king Aaron Spelling, ostensibly wrote the piece about the damage done to Joan Crawford's reputation by her daughter's memoir -- and the subsequent movie adaptation -- Mommie Dearest. Spelling bemoans the fact that Instead of thinking "Oscar winner" when we hear Crawford's name, we now think, "No wire hangers ever!" But of course the subtext to all this is Spelling's own heartbreak over her daughter Tori ("Donna Martin graduates!") and her recent book, sTori Spelling, which delves into all the ritzy-gritty details of her childhood and life as a star of "Beverly Hills, 90210."

The elder Spelling only makes reference to the book in one telling paragraph that appears well into the piece. For your convenience, I have reprinted it here: "One of my protective friends said she wished I had a Charlotte Chandler when my daughter's book, sTori Telling, came out recently, but Tori's book was not a Mommie Dearest.
Her childhood recollections vary from those of the rest of the family
and the many friends who were around during those years. The fact that
the media focused on her childhood complaints, not the many positive
experiences of her life, made me sympathize even more with poor Joan.
Parents learn early that mothers and fathers are convenient targets for
criticism; but there's nothing quite like hearing a totally revised
version of your daughter's childhood on a television show. At least
Joan missed the heartbreak of hearing strangers and outsiders
discussing her life."

So Mommy Spelling, who reportedly reconciled with daughter Tori only a year ago, seems to be frustrated with her little girl once again. Now, I have not read sTori Spelling and, frankly, I don't plan to. But based on common sense about families, my guess is that Candy Spelling probably made some mistakes as a parent, mistakes that profoundly impacted Tori S. I also would guess that mom and daughter remember these mistakes in very different ways.

That's the problem with memoirs: At least one loved one winds up feeling slighted or misrepresented by what shows up on those pages. I'm not saying Tori is wrong about everything and Candy is right. I am saying the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. And when there appears to be long-standing ill will between the two that both are still struggling to overcome, a memoir like this can't help much of anything, except perhaps Tori's bank account.

Lastly, I am guessing that the people who care most about Tori's memoir are: Tori and Candy Spelling. Most Americans, I suspect, would be just fine living their lives without hearing about every little thing that happened in the Spelling home. Being a mother now myself, I appreciate the hurt Candy Spelling must feel in a way I certainly could not have in pre-mommy mode. But she can take comfort in this: sTori Telling ain't Mommie Dearest. Faye Dunaway isn't going to play her in a campy '80s movie. And if they haven't already, most people will forget that Tori ever wrote that book in the first place.

P.S. "Donna Martin graduates!"

Photo: Babble.com

Best of Famecrawler: Finally, the Real Tom Cruise!

The story is
that the diminutive Scientologist and the producers of the Ben Stiller
movie (Tropic Thunder) in which he appears just don't want the
'surprise' cameo ruined for fans. Which, whatever. If there's really
anybody out there who would get a big thrill out of seeing a fat, balding Tom appear
unexpectedly in a Ben Stiller movie, I doubt that they're going to be
put off by a little spoiler or two. You'd have to be a die-hard
Tomophile to get off on the combination of Tom, prosthetics and Ben
Stiller. Really.

My guess? The producers of the Ben Stiller movie
orchestrated the dissemination of those photos to drum up press for the
movie - because, really, how many Ben Stiller movies have done boffo
box office recently? (how many Tom Cruise movies have done
boffo box office recently?) - and Tom's just choked because a) his
'serious' movie is a flop and he's still stinging from that, b) he
looks like a right idiot, and c) put those two things together and you
have the perfect recipe for a Scientologist hissy fit.

Get a good look at the picture and get your giggles in while you can; the deputies of Xenu will make us take it down soon.

Also crawling with fame today:

Meat makes Heather Mills hot

Britney had sex! On her birthday weekend, no less. Right after they adopted a baby. Niiiice. Now she's written about it in an essay for a book called, The Other Woman: Twenty-one Wives, Lovers, and Others Talk Openly About Sex, Deception, Love, and Betrayal, which comes out June 13.

Apparently the best way to break the news that a relationship is over in Hollywood is to let your partner know via tabloid or talk show. That way both people have a chance to collect themselves before the inevitable face-to-face encounter and subsequent requests from the press for more quotes. On the jerk-ometer, it's one step below texting your significant other, "we r thru." It's also a great way to get yourself a little exposure while you deal with the dumping. Win-win!

The method may have been made popular by rumors that Matt Damon dumped Minnie Driver on Oprah about a million years ago. That breakup is now reported to have been an urban legend, but it didn't stop Eddie Murphy from using this simple strategy, telling a Dutch show he was no longer with Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown. Then he went one better: he claimed he didn't know whose baby she was carrying. Scary found all this out when worried friends called her. Good one Eddie.

Now, if you end up having to dump your spouse the old-fashioned way, you can still make the most of the tabloid for the inevitable post-split feud. You know, just talk about how your ex is addicted to porn and gambling. I really thought that that those things would take care of themselves, with no real work on my part.

With the second one, I knew better. Maybe I should have passed a note to Tori Spelling.

Miss Tori was on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week, braying about her boobs and her belly, as only a new mom can, and was more than happy to give Jimmy and his viewers an intimate sneak peak at her life as a new mom to baby Liam, and the challenges she's faced.

On breastfeeding:

It's been a little difficult... I didn't know this before,
but sometimes you don't produce... So I supplement with a bottle to get and he found out that the bottle
is easier to consume, it's faster and comes right to you. He doesn't
have to do all the work. So, he started to [nurse] angry. He'd be pounding on the boob (with his fists)... And then he
got to the point where he realized, 'Well, no matter what I do she's
going to stick me on that thing,' - which, it is literally larger than
his head - so now he's kind of learned to pacify me and kinda just sit
there and suck on it until he can get
to his bottle."

On baby Liam's bad nursing attitude:

"Last week, I was feeding him, and he seemed to be like this
little angel baby eating, and I looked down, and he was sucking on the
boob, and he was holding it, and he had his middle finger up...he was
all, 'F you!'"

Tori also relayed her experience with one of the most horrifyingly depressing things that can happen to any postpartum woman: she was mistaken for a pregnant woman.

I was in the market last week and some woman approached me, she said, 'The baby!,' and I was like,
'Oh yeah,' thinking he had been on the cover of Us Magazine, and she
walked up and said, 'Can I touch him?' and grabbed my belly. And then
it got worse. I was like, "Oh no no, he was born 5 weeks ago!' and she

Put down your Duplo building blocks and your Dora backpacks and your sippy cups. Stop reading ni-ni books and please, keep your curious little chubbers fingers out of your nostrils for one very important moment. No, this isn't a time-out or a boy-parts/girl-parts talk. This is a much more critical issue that we need to discuss.

Children, this is about Tori Spelling.

Now, you probably don't remember Tori from back in the 90210 Donna days of cavernous cleavage and interminable virginity, but Mommy does. Mommy will remember for you that it was clearly a case of obligation and access to the beachfront condo that coerced Kelly to stay BFFs with Donna until the show came to a long and drawn-out end.

Mommy will remember with a cringe the commercials for Tori's self-mocking show on VH1 and the excrutiating boredom while sitting on a delayed plane on a tarmac in Portland that led to reading each and every one of the five page spread on how Tori and her now-hubby met, wooed and wed each other. And the sidebar on their cast-out spouses. Oh yeah, and the pictorial on their beach bonfire ritual after the nuptials. Cringe if you will but mommy will remember.

Now that Tori's made her way back to media darlingdom as a new wife, new mom, newly reconciled with her own mother, new owner of a B & B and new star of a reality show, her life has some dramatic questions looming that you, my babes, are aware of. Prepare yourself, the most pressing question needs your full attention: How will Tori Spelling lose her baby weight?

I know, I know. It's a big one.

But not to worry. She's been jogging with her husband and the kind folks at NutriSystem are going to take very good care of Tori's (surely) massive post-partum jelly belly after gaining (oh God) 40 pounds while pregnant. It'll all be OK.

Try not to worry your little heads, kids. I am sure it all be just fine.

Tori Spelling on Labor, C-Sections and Angelina

"It felt like I was being Tasered!"

That's what new mom Tori Spelling had to say about her 17-hour labor, which ended in the cesarean birth of Liam Aaron McDermott, now 3 weeks. "As foolish as this sounds now, I wanted to feel how bad it would hurt. But I think I let the pain go on a little too long before I got the epidural."

Tori tells US Magazine that when her labor stalled and she was told she'd need a c-section, she felt comforted by the fact that her OB-GYN was the same one who delivered another celebrity baby around this time last year, in Namibia. "I asked Dr. Rothbart if he'd do a good job, and he said, 'Well, Angelina didn't complain.' So I was like, 'If Angelina let him do a C-section in Africa, I am OK. I felt comforted by that.'"

I love that she didn't describe labor as "awesome!" or "pretty intense... but so worth it!" like a lot of celebrities do when they don't want to seem like wusses for keepin' it real. But what I want to know is - how does Tori know what being Tasered feels like? Who Tasered Tori?? 'Cuz that had to be fun.

(Just kidding. I love Tori! It's Dean who need to be Tasered.)

- have they not been talking about this baby forever?): Liam Aaron McDermott was born in L.A. on Tuesday, and People reports that mom and baby are both healthy and happy. This is the first baby for Tori, the second for Dean, who has another son, Jack, from his first marriage.

Baby Liam's impending arrival was the rumored catalyst for Tori's recent reconciliation with her long-estranged mom, Candy Spelling, which is kinda nice. And I'm sure his precious little baby face (here's hoping he didn't inherit Dad's massive chin!) is already being groomed for it's first appearance on his parent's new reality TV show, Tori & Dean: Inn Love, in which his parents fart around in a funky little B&B way out in San Diego County. For such a newbie, he's quite a busy little dude.

I'm not too sure about Dean (dude creeps me out), but I think Tori will make a sweet and caring mom. My favorite story, though, is her "shit story." (Everyone has one.) One of the workmen on her new B&B took a dump that clogged her toilet. What's a Tori to do? Why roll up her sleeves and plunge that sucker, that's what. Here she is in her own words:

This was a two ton turd that seemed invincible. It coiled in ways I've never seen a snake do before...this was ungodly. Yet, when I set my mind to a task I go full steam ahead. So, I rolled up my sleeves, grabbed my plunger, and dove in. I plunged my little heart out when suddenly a miracle happened...the toilet flushed! I was left repulsed and exhausted with a sore forearm yet somehow I felt PROUD! I mean, lets face it, growing up I never had to plunge a toilet...It just goes to show you: When life hands you CRAP, you plunge away!

I'd say she's ready to be a mother.

Tori Spelling To Host "Couples Tupperware Baby Shower," Also Called "Hell on Earth"

Have you ever heard of a corporate sponsored personal baby shower? No? Then obviously, you didn't get an invite to Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott's couples baby shower, hosted by Tupperware. According to sources, Tupperware contacted Tori, and offered to foot the bill for the get together because "they're big fans" of Tori's work (whatever!). Maybe it's just because I've never been to one of these, but mixing couples, Tupperware and a baby shower just feels wrong. Corporate sponsorship be damned - that's gonna be one lame-ass party.

Also, I'm having just the tiniest bit of trouble believing that Tupperware was knocking down Tori's door. Tori and her skeezy hubz just oooze desperate vibes. First the garage sale, now this? What's next, highest bidder gets to name the baby? It's weird. What I want to know is, why doesn't Tori's baby daddy just go out and himself a job? What is the deal with that guy? Tori's out workin' her pregnant ass off (So NoTORIous, the aforementioned garage sale, writing her upcoming memoirs), and that guy's just... there, lurking in the shadows. Glaring. Mark my words, Dean McDermott is up to no good.

The Tupperware extravaganza had to be his idea.
