I don't think I would have pushed her. But even so, this sounds like it's gotten totally blown out of proportion.

If you have her IQ tested it is probably well over 140. Most gifted children have an intensity about them and the world. They ahve bigger imaginations,so they worry at night, the are sensitive to light, loud noise, emotional situations, very creative, etc. MOst of all they need lots of patience and direction to help them learn to manage their frustrations. Worth a read that book. It will help her behavior make a lot of sense to you. I live Brezelton but for a gifted child putting them in their room to rage makes them worse and morelikely to feel isolated, odd, and depressed, esepcially later in their childhood. Read the book before she is 13, wearing all black, smoking dope and it is too later to help develop and nuture her wonderful gifts.

and to those folks that keep saying we need to drive 55mph to save gas, you need to learn how the drivetrains of modern cars work... they're optimized to reach peak fuel mileage at a certain speed (different for each car), usualy around 65mph to 75mph so that cars can obtain this peak fuel mileage and not be a moving roadblock. Ever wonder why transmissions are getting more and more gears? it's so we can drive at the faster speeds (above 70mph) and keep the engines running in the "power band". I drive a full-size pickup and achieve peak fuel mileage at 72mph. For those curious about the science, read bout "volumetric efficiency" for engines. Also, pay attention to how frequently your car shifts into and out of high gear at 55mph, the supposedly best speed for fuel economy. Most vehicles cannot stay in top gear at this slow speed becuase it's operating below the "power band" for the engine, and every time the transmission shifts to a lower gear, you're decreasing your fuel mileage.

How could you possibly help provide more readers to this ridiculous article?!?!?! This is exactly the type of mindless crap that spews from so-called "parenting" sources that puts all men into a category barely above an invalid. Amy Sutherland should be ashamed of herself and if she has to work that hard to "train" her husband maybe she should do more self reflection because maybe she's the one that should be trained.
It's too bad, because the cumulative effect is that people start to roll their eyes and think "whatever!" every time a new headline comes out, especially when it's presented as: Scientists Find Something Totally Obvious. You have to read the actual study (or at least the abstract) if you want to have the true picture of what they actually studied and what they really found (i.e., is it a correlation or a actual double-blind experiment and how do the results actually break down) to judge the validity. Sometimes the research itself is poor quality or doesn't have any value to add, but that certainly doesn't mean the whole profession is worthless.

Personally, I hate visiting where the TV is always on 'cause I don't know how to act. Are we watching it or talking over it or what? And I love my TV shows - I just like to do one or the other.

I mean, that's HUGE. I'm with Sheri on the moderation thing, but the number of foods that just became "treat" foods got higher after this.

I'm as paranoid as they come. My eyes are GLUED to those kids when out in public.

i do understand that some people are little more laid back though, and obviously thats fine but leaving your children alone in an unlocked apartment while your out drinking loads of wine for hours is just plain and simple bad parenting. at least in that instance. I dont care if you could see the apartments back window from where you were sitting or whatever, it was a STUPID thing to do. How could ANYBODY think that was a good idea?! They were vacationing so its not like they knew and trusted their neighbors to watch out for anything.

This whole thing makes me very upset and im frightened for that poor little girl.
