Saw a story similar to this in Parents magazine recently, and was outraged. These materials should be tested for safety before ending up on a playground. And if that's asking too much, then at least the materials should be replaced when it's established that they are a problem. Those poor kids! I can't imagine the amount of pain they are in!

Those burns are brutal, but suing the parks department? When it's really hot out, pavement and other outdoor surfaces get hot. That's just the way it is. The kid's parents shouldn't have let him run around barefoot in that heat.

That is awful! That photo really makes me cringe. Sometimes one of my son's shoes will fall off when he's playing at the park. Luckily our playground equipment is completely shaded by trees.
